If Aaliyah was still here, do you think she would be the best female artist in R&B/Pop right now?

somebody needs to tell @phantom 4 lyfe that shes on the wrong message board.

since when did we start accepting these stan-zine postsers on sites like these?

:camby:

LOL. you weren't around.

BET was rockin with destinys child way harder than Aaliyah by '99.
they got more play on urban radio than Aaliyah as well.
and they were show-stealers at things like the soul train awards - which brings me back to an earlier question, of where are Aaliyah's memorable performances at award shows & such?

.

what's a "star zine"??
I know a zine is a publication made and printed and given out. the preppy unwanted tree huggers in my high school gave them shyts out.
you still defending that solo Aaliyah and girl group member Beyoncé was on the same level and Beyoncé surpassed her 2001??? :mjlol:

Aaliyah was big over here in the UK during 00 and 01 her track Try again was played more than DC songs during that time.

and I'm not much into Hollywood, but by all accounts from people who aren't stans of Aaliyah, her acting was considered average at best.:heh:

And again, you're pretty much speaking for yourself. There's reviews of that movie that were very critical of the movie, but praised Aaliyah's role in it.

1st off... Beyonce is an amazing performer. She's captivating, and hands down the greatest performer alive. On top of all that, she's a very good vocalist.

With that said, Bey wasn't born with this talent .It's all in hard work, and dedication. I remember when a teenage Bey was a stationary dancer...
Bey BECAME the dancer She is today . Who was to say Aaliyah wouldn't become ???

On "Say My Name" and "Bill Bills Bills" Bey vocally wasn't what she is today.... Aaliyah was petty much a teenager for most of her career, she was in High school when both "Age ain't Nothing But A Number", and "One In A Million" dropped of course she's not gonna be a flawless vocalist, and performer...
Still For every bad performance there was a solid performance ..

In 2000-2001 the pop rnb slot was Aaliyah's... at the time, Aaliyah was the better dancer, and also an improving overall talent. As soon as she was maturing, and improving as a talent her career was cut short
she was only 21 here, with lots of room to grow. So Smooth and Effortless she was.

Internet piracy has become more accessible and common place over time. The demo that was utilizing Napster and shyt like that has broadened immensely. People were still putting up numbers. I see that Aaliyah came out July 7 of 01. I misread the Forbes article I came across. All I remembered was it came out over the summer and she was dead soon after. Does it take away from the fact that the album was underperforming? No Does it take away from the fact that people were making fun of her outfit after her 106 & Park performance? No. Why would that matter? It was a sign that she could have potentially been losing her coolness that made her her in the public. I do agree in theory you never know. Those were the final days of cds going platinum off the strength of a second or third single.
Going Gold In A month off of One Single is bad??
yea Aaliyah album sold 62,000 at the week of her death... almost 8 weeks since selling 187,000 the first week, those are great drop off numbers.

On August 27 , 1996 One in a Million debuted at twenty on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 40,500 copies in its opening week... By 1997 That Album went on to sell 9+ million copies world wide..
Aaliyah was doing what she usually did... in 2001 she was getting ready to Roll out the singles "More Than A Woman", "Rock The Boat", "Loose Raps", "Extra Smooth", "I Refuse" ... and the sells would pick up.
The first Single for One In A Million was If Your Girl Only Knew which was released 2 weeks before the album came out on August 13, 1996. Aaliyah and her camp were old school, they worked the shyt out of an album, and was more focused on gradual sales.

The title of the thread is would Aaliyah be the BEST female artist, not the BIGGEST in the entire world :mjlol:. She would've continued to pump out high quality RnB music as she did while she was alive and would've gotten better as she aged, as evident by the improvements she made from the beginning to the end of her career, so she very well could've ended up the best by this point - but she would almost be 40 by now. I'm sure by 35 she would've moved into fashion design or some business ventures with Dame

And Ashanti's first album was the bomb, but Ashanti didn't do much afterwards. Aaliyah modeled and acted to keep herself afloat during that 5 year gap in her albums. She should've toured more though, that would've helped her popularity a lot
Ashanti didn't go much afterwards because soon after her run, it was Ja Vs. 50... then the FEDs had a strangle hold on Murder Inc. Before you know it Murder Inc. was non Existent and the only Successful Artist On The label was Llyod... But Then Gotti fukked it up by trying to have Ja rub off on Lloyd's wave.

Beyoncé was not discredited to big up Aaliyah. Saying Beyoncé was bigger than Aaliyah in 2001 is in error because Beyoncé wasn't solo at that point.

This. People keep bringing up the Beyonce of today like she didn't have 15 years to improve.:mjlol:

Fact of the matter is there was no Beyonce the solo act let along solo star when Aaliyah was around.:yeshrug:

Aaliyah was doing Beyonce before Beyonce was doing Beyonce.:dame:

Modeling, acting, singing, dancing, etc

Let these nikkas tell it, she could only do a two step.

Well, that ain't too far off :russ: she did a lot of very choreographed stuff and that's it. Just go back and watch her stuff, she wasn't doing a whole lot. MJ, Chris Brown, Ciara, and young Usher would blow her off the stage. Hell, Aaliyah probably wasn't even a better dancer than Diddy :dead:

Eastside of that Motor
Let's keep it 100 :dame:

She was moving away from Timbo after already distanced herself from R Kelly for obvious reasons. Her sound was going to go more and more pop and then she would have sold out and diminished.

I am a huge Aaliyah fan I have AANBAN on vinyl and one in a million is one of my favorite albums ever. She wasn't the best singer but her voice was so sultry and smooth I don't understand how people don't like her music

Everyone you just named is choreographed to a degree. MJ is the most natural dancer of evryone in that list. I'm willing to bet a lot of posters in here don't know who Fatima or Lorianne are, but they are real dancers who came up with the steps and routines in the videos. Fatima even choreographed MJ.

:camby:With Comparing Aaliyah to Diddy. She wasn't James Brown or MJ, but clearly better than Puff
