If Aaliyah was still here, do you think she would be the best female artist in R&B/Pop right now?

If Aaliyah had the same promotion that Beyonce' has had for the last 2 decades, she could've been the best female artist in the game

Beyonce's team of A&R's and promotional team > Beyonce's talent

Beyonce' is talented but she's not as great as many make her out to be.

might be the first time i've disagreed with you lol

i'll get trashed for this, but i dont even think aaliyah would reach ciara status (not talking music wise but fame..cuz im assuming that's what you mean) ..Ciara's one of the few black r&b females outside of beyonce to transition into the pop mainstream world , it's tough now

Beyoncé did a sold out global stadium tour in 2016, she was the lead singer in a group that had 8x platinum selling album on 1999. No amount of team can keep somebody on top for that long. Every top artist at a label has a high level TEAM, that does not mean success forever or even success at all, if it did why if there no other "Beyonces"? Give the girl her props because not only does she have more talent than everyone else, she also works harder than everyone else.

Aliyah can't sing better than Beyoncé
Aliyah can't dance better than Beyoncé
Aaliyah couldn't perform better than Beyoncé

Beyonce' hasn't made better music than Aaliyah
Beyonce's doesn't evoke any type of emotion
Aaliyah wasn't really a dancer so it's a moot point of even bringing up Beyonce's being a dancer when Aaliyah wasn't really a dancer like talking bout. BUT, point taken. Beyonce can dance.

Beyonce's stage performance is so robotic. It's overproduced. She can dance but it's so predictable it just comes off like "ok, now this is where she squats, behinds over, twerks a bit and then smiles"

Eh, gimmie a performance like this all day over Beyonce's predictable robotic stage performance

You my nikka, but not even CIARA status?! But Ciara has never even reached Aaaliyah status!

Ciara's music has only been relevant in the last few years due to her relationships with Future and Russell Wilson IMO

just fame status, yeah ciaras been relevant (to us) cuz of russ and future, but she's also been around the hollywood circles/shows/fashion ...a lot of it just due to her personality

its rough for black female r&b singers now lol. i think zendaya has a shot to be much bigger (shes really talented) but seems more focused on acting

and i'm not gonna go at you for your opinion on what YOU like, but i cant believe you havent liked a single beyonce performance. She's really one of the best ever to perform, that's something that's tough for people to deny

She's a hard worker but Beyonce's MUSIC is blah and a bunch of sugar shyt. I can count on 1 hand the songs I like by her.

That's disrespectful to even put her in the same category as Janet, Whitney, Marish and even Madonna in the 80's/90's.

See, it's only Beyonce' that's a big star right. I feel like nikkas feel like they GOTTA cling onto her cause we ain't got nobody else, so they ride so hard for her. Beyonce's singing is emotionless, her dancing is nice and her songs range from blah, to eh to whatever.
You basically sound resolved to downing bey's talent. She has a brilliant voice, and it is fair to lump her with those other women as beyonce would hold her own in any generation...she'd actually have better songs if she was in her prime during the era when songwriting was better.

Unless you're only moved by Christina aguilera/Jennifer Hudson voices, i really don't see how you can dismiss bey who has one of the most well rounded voices in the game.

Whatever tho, the point still stands, Aaliyah wouldn't be running shyt right now. That Timbaland sound is what made her, one in a million propelled her career and that's because it was a fresh sound, timb and the crew fell apart in 03/04 and he spent time lacing nikkaz like jay z and timberlake, Aaliyah would've been useless without him and missy.

Beyonce robotic? Ok...

Outside of one in a million, Aaliyah has a handful of songs that are still dope....you're letting nostalgia take over a bit too much, and I'm an Aaliyah stan.

And if songs like miss you, 1+1, rather be with you, speechless, flaws and all, I care, etc dont move you i don't think you're giving her a fair shake. I'm the first to say she doesn't make much music that touches you, but those songs :wow:

In fact, that's why her album 4 is my favorite, those love songs connect

True, I feel what you saying.

It is is rough for Black female R&B singers. I mean, shyt. It's ONLY Beyonce' who's a BIG star. It ain't like when we had Toni, Whitney, Mariah and Janet all doing their thing at 1 point in time. Now it's JUST Beyonce'; there should be more Black female (and male) R&B singers running the game. shyt, R&B is pretty much non existent really.

I know of Zendaya cause of her modeling and seeing her on magazine covers but I didn't know she sings too.

There's been a couple of performances Beyonce' has done that I've said "not bad. ok. ok." but she's never wowed me or had me like "DAMN!" Know what I mean?

Aaliyah was talented and lord knows she was beautiful. But let's get back to reality, OP.

Beyonce has been unstoppable every since Destiny's Child stepped on the scene and the fanbase she's built around herself leaves even most white artists in awe.

So what exactly makes you think Aaliyah was going to surpass this? Even if you break it down to numbers, that 01 album did like 180k week 1 or something in an age where artists were settings sales records. May of 01, before Aaliyah dropped that album, Destiny's Child set a highest first-week sales record of any female group in the SoundScan era with Survivor. And keep in mind, she was just getting started here.

Aaliyah made great music and had producers and writers like Timbaland and Missy helping her out. She could act, sing and model. That's why I think she would've been still a big factor in the game today.

Nope, she wasn't even popping like that when she was alive.

here we go :snoop:

I was wondering how quick an Aaliyah hater would show up. 3 comments in

TLC did it first and they were bigger than Aaliyah.

True. But it doesn't mean that Aaliyah didn't come right after them and make an impact in real time.

Of course she's bigger now than before - she dropped actual classics. Enough time has passed and people realize her music was innovative as fukk. We thought her shyt was innovative back then but it's really obvious now.

Most innovative artists are never huge in the time period they drop their best shyt. They're not ignored either. But it takes time for people to catch up. "We Need A Resolution" blew me the fukk away when it came out, but from what I read, it pretty much flopped as a single. Now of course it's a staple Aaliyah record and everyone's heard it.

Saying she'd be Monica/Brandy/Mya status is laughable because Aaliyah's music was more ahead of the curve than they were. As they waned in popularity, Aaliyah would've only become more notable because that's how these things work. Nas is arguably more popular now than he's ever been, meanwhile no one really cares what LL Cool J is up to in comparison.

Father Time :wow:
