Meh. Hes right but people are always gonna gravitate towards music that requires little thought. 99% of the time we listen to music just to feel good.

This. I come to learn people listen to music to be entertained and they don't really pay attention to the music or lyrics being rapped.

Most of y'all dudes are hypocrites, y'all don't mind ignorance as long as it's the type of ignorance y'all like.

The same people in here moralizing are the same people that would make a thread like "All The Ways Prodigy Can Kill A Nikka Apprecation Thread :ohlawd:"

White people's fascination with trap music has always made me feel uncomfortable. Like those Vice and Pitchfork features where they go to the hood are damn near on some Animal Planet shyt:francis:

Them being fascinated is nothing new. It's happened through every music genre that's been created by black folks here.

This is kind of the problem I have with his latest album.

He has some basic social commentary and acts like its something profound....but scratching the surface at best.

He'll get cosigned because there's a "message" but it's neither profound nor deep. Like, you don't have to listen to his album or watch this interview to figure this out
Has anyone ever released a rap album that's *that* conscious or profound?
Certainly not Nas, Jay Electronica, or Lupe :mjlol:
The reality is there's a very small threshold for "conscious" albums, and Joey did a damn good job :yeshrug:

Music choice is not correlated to intelligence.

White people made the same arguments about the blues, jazz, rock, rap, techno/house at one point. Sad to see Black people parrot it.
The difference is that blues, jazz, techno/house, and even rock were not purely lyric-based with the vast majority of popular content set around drug use, gun violence exclusively in your own community, and only sexual acquisition of women.
This seems to be the favorite argument "jazz, rock and house music is about drugs and sex," yet it wasn't this highly concentrated and being marketed solely toward one impressionable demographic :dame:
How much of any other genre marketed toward Black youth literally had choruses exclusively about drugs or killing each other? :dame:

Make a true statement that makes people rethink what they're used to doing, they're gonna attack you on instinct.

This thread is proof.

Joey's fake deep, fake intellectual, corny, living in the past, etc.

Continue adding on because somebody took a stand which offends your programming, you directionless gutter snipes.

Who. Gives. A. Shyt?

That may be the dumbest criticism in the history of criticism. You the type of dude who will watch a guy pick up trash off the street for an hour and then clown him because that street will never look at fly as main street so he just wasted an hour.

A more accurate analogy would be Joey picking up trash and making the claim that with every piece of trash he picks up, the earth becomes less heavy.

Why do you give a damn why he picks up trash or what he's got to say about it as long as it's getting picked up?
