This. I come to learn people listen to music to be entertained and they don't really pay attention to the music or lyrics being rapped.

Them being fascinated is nothing new. It's happened through every music genre that's been created by black folks here.

The reality is there's a very small threshold for "conscious" albums, and Joey did a damn good job
The difference is that blues, jazz, techno/house, and even rock were not purely lyric-based with the vast majority of popular content set around drug use, gun violence exclusively in your own community, and only sexual acquisition of women.
This seems to be the favorite argument "jazz, rock and house music is about drugs and sex," yet it wasn't this highly concentrated and being marketed solely toward one impressionable demographic
How much of any other genre marketed toward Black youth literally had choruses exclusively about drugs or killing each other?
