This did not happen. Kobe was the deciding factor in every one of those series. Pop himself said that Kobe was the key to stopping the Lakers. They had no answer for him.

Notice how Shaq is always really humble when it comes to Duncan. Duncan's defense is what puts him ahead. The Lakers could never defend the pick and roll with Shaq out there. His spirit has made it so they still can't defend it now. Gone but not forgotten.

Kobe averaged 28ppg on 47% shooting against the Spurs, Shaq was less than dominant when he had to play them. As good as Shaq and Kobe were together, Duncan and Kobe probably would have been better.

Everyone who was paying attention knows it was Kobe that was killing the Spurs pre-03, not Shaq. I remember after one game, Shaq called Kobe the best player in the league. A big part of the reason the Spurs beat them in 03 was that they didnt have to double Shaq much like most teams because Duncan could handle him 1-on-1.
