I can accept the reasonable argument that Biggie would not have risen to the same level of stardom without Puff's vision and marketing muscle behind him, but to say Big would have remained unknown and died penniless or whatever is just the kind of obnoxious hate threads we've come to expect around here.

There's a reason why Puff was so eager to start his own label after hearing big --- he knew he had a once in a lifetime talent on his hands that he could mold and shape and build an empire off of, and Biggie was largely a finished and polished product when Puff met him. Why are we still waiting for Puff to create another star with the type of love, respect, admiration, and popularity of a Biggie smalls since the mans death?

puffy played a big role in big's career. biggie was a very talented individual but without puffy, biggie would've been another redman; a talented underground lyricist with gold records but no cross over or mainstream appeal. puffy helped to smooth out those edges and polished biggie's music and image (a wide variety of songs from the party/dance/club songs to the more introspective songs to the storytellin' songs to the songs for the ladies etc etc etc and then the whole versace shades and shirts, coogi sweaters, kangol cap, the pinstripe suits etc etc)

Not a bad comparison,but Redman had help from established producer in Erick Sermon too. yeah but the point i was tryin' to make was that redman never got that cross over appeal. he got the respect among his peers and hip hop heads and the gold records (with the exception of doc's da name 2000 which went platinum) but he never really got that mainstream success

puff was the visionary, a mover and a shaker. he knew what worked and what didn't. remember, puffy's track record speaks for itself; he played a huge part in the success of jodeci, mary j blige, biggie, faith evans, ma$e, 112, total etc etc. puff shook things up and changed the industry because he bought the hip hop/r&b to the radio which is still the standard today (i'm not talkin' bout the "sound" per say of today's era -- lol but the combination of a rapper and r&b collaboration) and i'm not sayin' he was first (rakim and jody watley had done it way before) but i'm sayin' puff made it the standard
