and when he signed his 1st deal with uptown records it was for a substantial amount

why yall pac stan act like biggie was some homeless rap/mc nikka that pac felt sorry for & took him in until he could get his shyt together

Puffy and Biggie are the Quincy and MJ of Hip Hop. They needed each other. But I think Biggie proved that he was destine for greatness by making Junior Mafia and Lil Kim a success WITHOUT Puffy really. It was Biggie that let Puffy get on "No Time" to help his rap career. So I think if Puffy didn't sign Big, he eventually would of got with a Label like he did with Atlantic. He definitely wouldn't of sold the same records but he would of been a huge "Underground" mid-level star in Hip Hop. But with Puffy he rose to GOAT Level cause Puffy made Biggie Globally. Also people have to understand. Biggie was a Gemini, there were 2 BIGGIE's. There was the raw/uncut Biggie which most diehard Hip Hop fans love. Then there was Polished/Mainstream Biggie which was mostly Puffy's creation.

the redman comparison is telling because craig mack was basically a poor-man's redman.

yet, craig mack's run was arguably bigger than redman's peak.

puff is a genius.

i kinda see what your tryin' to say with the "craig mack was basically a poor-man's redman" but craig still won't nowhere near no damn redman, not talent wise :comeon:

craig had a hit record with "flava in ya ear" which made him a one hit wonder and that was that but yes, that still speaks to puff's genius of knowin' how to market and make things work

Bruh...

It's not that I like to pick on you Wacky... but you give me reasons to debate with you man... :heh:

Now, did Craig Mack have a huge fukkin' hit? Yeah. HUGE. Best single of '94 in my opinion. But can you even call Craig Mack's run a run?

Like... when you have this huge single, and by the time this huge single gets a groundbreaking remix and video, you're not even the star of that shyt? Or like... you have a follow-up single that kinda sounds like the hit, and it's a hit by proxy but it comes and goes... meanwhile your labelmate done passed your ass up in record time? And then that album... blah. And then some ol' terrible shyt a couple years later after getting let go by your label... I dunno mannnn... :pachaha:

Granted, Red didn't have a Flava In Ya Ear level single. But Red at his height actually SUSTAINED it. Craig Mack was pretty much a six-month wonder. Him, Ill & Al Skratch, Camp Lo... nikkas like that, I can't even say had a real run.

I like Puff's beats though.
Those long loops usually sound way more musical than choppy 2 bar beats.

other way around

This. It can be argued BIG wouldn't have gotten the attention/career he did without Puff, but BIG gave Puff credibility as a figure in hip-hop. If BIG never existed, or he never met him, and Puff's first foray into rap was that shiny suit poppy player shyt, he would've gotten tossed out the rap game sideways.

craig mack wasnt a one-hit wonder.

he had 4 hits off of 2 albums.

ehh. you took my post way too literal.

by run, i didnt mean "run on top". i was just referring to his album run.

4 hits?

Flava and the remix count as two, I guess... Get Down was kinda a hit...

What else?

That album run definitely wasn't bigger than Redman at his peak... Flava got him off to a big start, but it was over as time went on. He was to the back after that song cooled off.
