Az one of my personal favorites but Nas got AZ on this one

I woke up early on my born day, I'm twenty years of blessing
The essence of adolescent leaves my body now I'm fresh in
My physical frame is celebrated cause I made it
One quarter through life some God-ly like thing created
Got rhymes 365 days annual plus some
Load up the mic and bust one, cuss while I puffs from
My skull cause it's pain in my brain vein money maintain
Don't go against the grain simple and plain
When I was young at this I used to do my thing hard
Robbin foreigners take they wallets they jewels and rip they green cards
Dipped to the projects flashin my quick cash
And got my first piece of ass smokin blunts with hash
Now it's all about cash in abundance, nikkaz I used to run with
Is rich or doin years in the hundreds
I switched my motto - instead of sayin fukk tomorrow
That buck that bought a bottle could've struck the lotto
Once I stood on the block, loose cracks produce stacks
I cooked up and cut small pieces to get my loot back
Time is Illmatic keep static like wool fabric
Pack a four-matic that crack your whole cabbage

:wow:

Yeah but Jay-Z had already heard Em's verse on 'Renegade'.....the song had been out for 2 years with Royce on it....and Jay still couldn't manage to write something better :mjlol:

:comeon: Great verse, but stop it.
What shall we then say about the verse on NY state of mind? Second verse of
memory lane?
About the verses of
Ain't hard to tell? or even better in Nas will prevail (pre-illmatic)?
Again it's a good verse but it's not even top 3 in illmatic.

Except I didn't say anything about the actual quality of the verse. I said the most MEMORABLE verse on the album. If you were to take a poll of hip hop fans, I guarantee more people would be able to recite at least a portion of AZ's verse, than any other verse on the album.

I always felt Jay held his own on Renegade, especially considering Em had all kinds of time to get into the track. With that said, Nas and AZ was a perfect balance, a sparring session if you will. I give Nas the edge on quotables and his overall approach to the track. AZ was rhyming for a deal, you could hear it in his verse that this was his shot. Nas coasted, was in total control as if he knew he was gone be around for a while. It was truly like two boxers in the ring. One had energy and power, the other had ring generalship and total command of the moment.
