Kobe's love of scoring has nothing to do with dwight leaving. dwight should've never been in LA without us gettin CP3 since he was part of the scheme. But either way, dwight wasn't cut out for LA plus jim disrespected him(and the whole Lakers organization and stanbase) when he specifically asked for Phil and was given mike f'ucktoni and an offensive scheme he wanted no parts of. Which speaks to dwight's own pea brain logic because he'd be a better pick and roll player than he is a post up player.

I dont remember the details surrounding those trades.

How would the lakers have ended up with both Chris Paul and Dwight Howard? Werent some of the pieces initially in the Paul trade diverted towards the Howard trade?

Interesting question. I'd say no, but if that jean wearing bamma didn't "retire" in 93, who's to say he would've kept playing until 98.

There was a lot that still needed to be sorted out. The trade window hadnt even opened yet when the trade was announced and subsequently shut down. A lot of other changes would have had to be made because the rumored deal did not pass the salaries matching test.

Stephen A Smith put out a rumor that the Bynum for Dwight trade was already agreed to and was going to come next. It was never substantiated and never needed to be since the first trade got vetoed anyway.

Moving up the scoring list never seemed to matter to Jordan. He easily could have made a run at Malone and Kareem.
Jordan led the league in scoring damn near every season he played and has the all-time highest scoring total... I'm not sure what more he could have done to catch Kareem given the seasons he played, unless you just mean he could have just easily played more seasons.

Yep, he quit in the middle of his prime and he quit again when he was still at the top of the league. He tossed away 4-5 very productive years. Scoring 18 pts a game in those years would have got him past Kareem.

lets say 29.5 points a game(I think a fair avg) x 82 x 2 = 4,838. So I would say no

You right you right :russ: I missed my x2 lol

Jordan missed 147 games due to his retirement (aka, ban) so that * 30ppg + 32292 (current points) puts him around 36,700 total points.

Kobe is at 32262. So he's 4,440 points shy. If he averages 25ppg for the rest of his career (which is unlikely) he'll need another 178 games to catch jordan.

That means he'll have to finish out this season, play the entire next season, plus almost half of the following season. All without missing any major time, all while averaging 25 points per game. I dont see that happening. I dont see a team giving kobe enough fga per game for him to achieve 25 ppg for that long.

But say Kobe finished out this season at his current clip. Then he would have 33762. Lets say he played next year and averaged 20ppg. Then he would have 35,400 points. Then for the 2016-2017 season averaged 15ppg. That would put him at 36,600....only 100 points shy of Jordan.

So the only way I see Kobe catching him is if he accepts a diminished role after this year, and continues to play at least a couple more seasons. Of course this still assumes he stays healthy.

That is some good ass analysis there my brother

It was suppose to be Pau/Odom for CP3 and Bynum plus a 1st for Dwight. That's why the league stepped in, cuz dan gilbert and mark cuban started crying foul about how LA could even be allowed a trade like that.

oh, ok. so it was completely feasible for them to acquire both. i always assumed the lakers only had enough pieces for one or the other.

hindsight is always 20/20...but its funny how the league thought:

eric gordan
chris kaman
al farouq aminu

was much more valuable than:

goran dragic
kevin martin
luis scola

The Pelicans would have been much better off if the Lakers trade went thru. But then again, with a slightly better team they may have won more games, and not ended up with the #1 pick to get Anthony Davis :yeshrug: guess it all worked out in the end. For the Clippers and the Pelicans at least.
