No. I'm from France and here in Europe, Nas was a star when he dropped iww. Big Pun and even biggie were only known by rap fans, but they were blowing up in the us essencially, biggie really blew up in europe with the mo money mo problems and hypnotize singles but he was already dead at that moment so he didn't had the chance to capitalize on that. As for such and such was a big star after their first album, well, pun dropped in 98 and nas in 94, totally different eras, you can't really compare. 98 was a year when even black rob or canibus (could/should have been platinum due to the exposure of ny rap on mtv and in general at that time)
