Most public defenders don’t make much. They also do a lot of pro bono work.
Most people who finish law school don’t even go to prestigious firms.

My point is private attorneys are raping folks who think they getting a deal just by paying crazy fees for simple crimes. I'm not mad at it, they gotta get their just pay.Public defenders can’t “easily” get anything. Part of the money you’re spending on a lawyer is their reputation and network. A decent lawyer has relationships with the DAs, prosecutors and judges. Whereas a prosecutor knows you’re using a public different will try to railroad you just because.

the fact they can potentially make median salary or above is crazy if they supposed to be the unwanted/last choice.
Public defenders are under paid if you ask me. Just off the volume of cases and constant shyt they have to do. There are alot of good public defenders. Because they are over burden with high volume cases it can become an issue of not being able to be 100% available to your clients.
What kills me is all the dumb muthafukkas who catch light felonies or class A misdemeanors and get raped by private attorneys.
Catch a misdemeanor and hire lawyers that ran upna check for 10k or more and all they did was agree on a plea agreement offer that a public defender could of easily gotten as well
nikka yo daddy is Bruce WayneI have a soft ass biology degree and I make more than 60k
I've seen it mad times. My peoples or some other folks from my hood getting fleeced by an attorney and then you ask them what their charges for and it be some class A/B misdemeanor,. Man if you don't get your scary ass away from me. Scared to do a few months in the county but even with that they just gonna fine your ass and prob probation and release you on those terms.i wouldn’t dare pay for a paid lawyer for a misdemeanor or like a shoplifting felony. Maybe a DUI or aggravated assault, but not no felony with a max penalty of a year in jail lol. A public defender will just get you to plea to a lesser charge. You’ll get probation or time served I'm sure.
They do not make a lot of money compared to other legal fields…and they are way overworked…any public service legal gig is a grind and not worth the money imoRealistically speaking not everyone can be on the high end. Beating median salary is the American dream at this point if you not an influencer nor STEM
