This has been going on since the beginning ask Melle Mel

most of the time we never even know

I'm sure it has. And it's sad because it's lead to the fake bullshyt we have to deal with today. I wonder just how many of these legendary rappers had their shyt written for them. I hope it's no one I like.

I don't mind if you're in the room with your peoples and your boy tosses you a hot line. That's totally different.

But a "here, go write this verse for me and come back to me with the finished product, and I'll spit it" is garbage.

The guy who blew this whole thing the fukk open was Puffy. I know an OG who was a hip hop executive at the time, and he said specifically: "once Puffy came through with No Way Out and sold more records than anyone in the genre, I knew this shyt had changed'.

also, if Drake has writers, and Drake has written stuff for Kendrick, what does that make Kendrick?

Kendrick stans please don't kill yourselves.

so y'all are disappointed that rappers are regular people? Everybody needs help in EVERY profession. You might write your own raps at 20, but by the time you're close to 40, you might need help. You might have a 2 hour deadline to write a verse for a feature.

Plus, there's some dope lyricists out there who don't have the voice or the "look" to get on, what should they do? Just let their talent and passion go to waste?

I'd be disappointed if 2Pac had a ghost writer on Dear Mama or Keep Ya Head Up, but I don't care if these frivolous songs of today are partially ghosted

I hate professional rappers. By the time you're 40, get the fukk out the game and make room for new talent.

Yes. If you're one of these cats, hip hop is not for you.

Or we set up a known system were we say: "OK, so and so is the writer of this song, and he/she pens marvelous shyt, but we're gonna hand it over to a great voice to deliver it."

i wanted to automatically neg you but i figure it would be better to engage you

where did you learn your anecdote regarding hip-hop history from?

i understand your point but its easy to work on flair or annunciation etc if you aint writing the words

all i got from your comment was that you like kanyes voice more. which i agree but im not inclined to side with kanye because i like his voice more

Heard people talk about it as well as I watched the documentary. It's common knowledge my dude.

...who writes Iggy's rhymes? She sounded "convincing" on 'Mediocre', which is the first verse from her I've listened to in its entirety.

She gets her shyt ghost written.
She did a freestyle on Sway in the morning and that shyt was garbage juice.
Her whole persona is a fraud.

This is why rap will never truly be respected. Too many fans are supremely disrespectful.

Nobody is telling bruce Springsteen to "get the f*ck out the game", or BillY Joel etc

People like Jay Z and Nas are rapping still at a high level for love of the art and you wanna "make room" for some new nikka who just wants a Benz or a chain.
