If Ross wasn't exposed he'd be an EVEN BIGGER rap artist. Yay/Nay?

Would Ross be even bigger today without the C.O. incident?

Rick Ross does not make cross over music, he never has. That's why his sales don't translate to the artist y'all are comparing him to.

exactly.

its that simple.

all this other stuff dudes is talking in here is a waste.

pick one breh their all the same song :troll:

this shoulda blew!

ross can rap ALL day though

:what:

these aren't crossover songs.

they all cater to black radio for the most part.

a few of those hooks are hip-pop radio accessible tho. i'll say that much. but he doesn't make the same brand of music as a drake, Kendrick, jay, kanye, nicki, Eminem or half-the-time wayne.

Of course the ATL
I think the thing with Ross is that the CO thing reaffirmed what we already knew: Ross is an artist with an impeccable ear for beats who has the phoniest character of any star rapper in hip hop history.

If anything Ross's biggest failure is that he truly failed to connect with his fanbase on a personal level. His character is that of a liar who makes good, not great music. Add to that he played himself with the fake Louis shades on XXL & denying being a CO for a yr before finally admitting to it I don't think he would've gotten any bigger than he is now without it. The lies are part of his persona.

Man, for real, it's just as easy to get dope in jail as on the streets, and COs are the main reason why.

I don't think anyone cares about. It's that he continuously time after time lied about ever being one.

CO's bring in that work in the jail, I'd consider them dope dealers (as he does in 95% of his music) but he didn't reveal that from the get-go

Dont all the hits Jay Nas Dmx 50 Ludacris TI Drake etc cater to black radio. Whoever said 50 hurt white fans from buying his sh1t. May be on to sonething. Every rapper that were considered the hottest rapper all went plat. Kendrick being the latest. So was it just a media push that failed ? Or something else? Its weird. If u were the streets favorite u go plat :yeshrug:

I will say that he fukked up by not admitting he was a CO at first. Not necessarily from a street cred perspective, but that whole debacle took some of the attention off his music . That period between Trilla and DTR was one of the biggest leaps in ability displayed by a rapper in hiphop history, but went relatively un noticed because of that CO shyt.

Ross is a GOLD artist, i think he missed the platinum train. Thats cool though because Ross is kinda redefining success in the hiphop genre. He may never go platinum but his name is just as relevant now as it was in 2009 and that in itself makes him an elite.

Rick Ross was stumbling at one point cause he was trying hard to crossover with all the songs catered towards women. Then bmf dropped and dude took off and nobody cared about his lying and all that.

The way 50 did Ross may be the most disrespectful shyt ever in hip hop. Exposes yo bm to be a prostitute and drops her sextape, nikkas probably ran thru his other bm, put yo ace Khalid momma house out there, beats up yo best friend, playing with yo son and shyt. Fukk that

the bolded is false. very false. and darn near half the artists you named were never even in the running for being the streets favorite. Kendrick & drake? lol. luda? that's my man by nah. tip had a run but ross surpassed it.

no. all those hits that 50 was droppin did not cater to black radio. disco inferno? plus he had interscope fully backing him. and jay-z? jay has been rapping for the white folks for years now.

dmx is a rare breed. jeezy is as well(somebody else mentioned him).

nas was never really a big seller like that. illmatic was his shining moment in the streets and that album went aluminum back in the day.

I'm talking about on the level of Drake/Wayne/Kanye/Jay in 2013...

I swear...Deeper Than Rap showed an evolution in an artist I've NEVER seen before.

His lyrics improved.

His music improved.

His style improved.

I mean dude really stepped it up...but he got his card pulled...but at that point fans had to make a decision:

its either about the music, or the artist...and at this point, I think we can say that THE MUSIC won.

no i don't think he would be bigger but he is a huge star no matter what so he won with the exposure.

streets don't go hand-n-hand with the mainstream half the time. especially these days.

50 cent was a different animal in '03-04. he was basically the new dmx at the time. then add the fact that he had the biggest machine in rap history behind him. you cant compare him to ross at all.

disco inferno has hip-pop radio written all over it.

You was good til you mentioned plies and young dro............how do fans not connect with Ross but they connect with Plies and Dro. Neither one of them nikkas are around nor have sold the records Ross has sold.

How does he keep consistently going gold if he don't connect with people, he might not connect with nikkas like like wayne drake, ye and all the top superstars. But to consistently go gold in this climate......you gotta be doing something right.

:russ: Plies having a memorable verse on I'm so hood, I forgot that nikka was on the song, the song aint even memorable.

All I remember is it being about a 100 nikkas on that song

Let I'm so hood come on and see what happens:ufdup:...Plies verse is sung in unison, what about Plies verse on Lose My Mind?Plies verse on Wasted? The nikka had some memorable verses and outshined Ross on every song they been on:russ:...Plies was gettin Pac comparisons before he decided to shamlessly crossover and go for the ladies and not feed the streets:snoop:....Plies sold gold his first two albums too and Dro did on his first I believe.....and guess what, both had a fraction of the promotion Ross had when they tried pushing him down our throats for a whole year, feature after feature, hottest mc list, puffy aaaalll in the videos comparin him to biggie:laff:....my point wasn't that they are bigger stars...my point was rappers of they ilk had more superstar potential than Ross and a push and marketing dollars would've been better spent on them all bias aside,Ross ceiling was always lower....some rappers just have more memorable performances on wax than others, and lyrical ability has shyt to do with it....show me a nikka who don't know quotables fromDro on Shoulder Lean,or his verse on Top Back where he outshined ATL's finest at the time:ohlawd:...these are legendary:manny:....Ross ain't got verses like that
