If Royce was given a major label push with the right producers..

Cause like Royce, back in the days he was rated high of bars and technical skills. But didn't have any memorable songs, never did anything fresh or original (i.e. shyt that hasn't been done) and on. But for some reason people still rated him high. Same goes for Royce imo. While he's a great rapper he's far from top 10 but easily top 50.

IF anything, Eminem and Canibus have more similar subject matter.

Say what you want about Royce, this shyt was :ohlawd:

I might need to correct my statement about not having memorable classics.
Hiphop and Boom are definitely classics. The rest still stands, imo that is.

"you prolly ducked when they laid the gunshot in your song" qualifies him for GOAT status :smugbiden:

How the fukk are Royce and Canibus remotely similar? They don't have similar styles, career paths, skin tone, or anything else.

Two hyped up emcees who had all the resources necceessary at hand to blow up in the game and some how some way......with all those resources....It just didnt happen. Thats both Canibus and Royce's story.

He would be a contender for one of the G.O.A.T.S, I strongly believe Royce da 5'9" has the complete package to be the greatest and we all know it's mandatory to be on a major to be considered anything relevant or catch anyone's attention. With that being said, the right producers, a major budget and his potential to make classic songs would def put him in talks with the ice cubs, pacs, BIGs and Nas's, no question! F*ck what anyone says! :takedat:

I agree...but he'd need someone that could shape and direct him. It's too bad that he fu*ked off his situation with Dre initially. That's probably what he needs, someone who demands attention to detail and perfection.

Royce has moments of greatness, but it gets clouded by the mass amounts of sh*t he puts out as well...He's got songs that (IMO) are classics, but has a ton of forgettable songs too.

With that said, this is one of my Royce faves:

Royce - Gun Music

"you know if you murdered I been to see you, I got my wife and my ni**a Keno on pins and needles, they don’t know if they gone get that Royce call, the death call or that department of corrections collect call. I’m going to hell in a handbasket, I whoop a ni**a a*s good the a*s whooping is handcrafted…I’d rather put them triggers to you cause ni**as’ll sue you, you fu*ked, like I just donated my liver to you…”

:ooh:

he was, in 2002 with Rock City. it had a Neptunes single, and it flopped somethin horrible

that album had no chance of winning when it came out on Koch, if it would have came out on a major like he initially was suppose to, then that would have done GOLD at LEAST!

Is he entertaining enough? Can he write hits? is he interesting enough to have millions of people follow him AND buy what he's selling?

Anyone can make hard, safe music and not attract fans or sell records.
Now try doing that and actually being successful is extremely uncommon.

I don't think he's got what it takes, more Canibus than LL.

he wrote for diddy and dre so he can write hits

although when he started blowing up a lil thats when he became corny.... his earlier shyt was everything but corny... theres some dudes who should blow up and some who shouldnt...and as a royce fan he shouldnt becuz his underground stuff was dope but then when he tried to blow up (newest slaughterhouse album) it was ehhhhhh

You cant really say this, given the state and environment of hip hop the last decade or so. Its not as if mainstream hip hop has been known for its quality of music and concepts. Pretty much appealing to the lowest common denominator, and one-syllable rapping greatly increases chances for success. Outside of Kendrick, has there been a big hip hop star of substance that wasnt wealth, drug/club, and gun obsessed, that has emerged in the last 15 years?

Some artists have too much pride than to make blatant idiot music like the Weezys, guccis, d4ls, soulja boys, flockas, mike jones, young jocs, young berg, oj da juiceman, t.i's of the world that have completely dominated hip hop. Commercial appeal has been a very narrow space for a minute in hip hop.

it's too late :yeshrug: to me, he lost his edge after Bar Exam 2. I'll listen if he can still put out good stuff though.

I dont think Royce would have ever crossed over no matter the situations. He may have sold a few more albums if him and EM were still tight during EMs heyday in the early to mid 2000s. But he would never blow to that level or be looked at as one of the greatest ever. But with that being said Royce is still a dope MC and has had a good career.
