If Someone Is Born In The US, To Two African Born Parents, Wouldn’t That Make Them African American?

Why do people ask this stupid question over and over?
:mindblown:

I’m not up on all the diaspora borders being drawn these days so i was a bit confused by the wording of this post…

An African nikka from St.Louis talking about we need to forget slavery …

An African nikka, from St. Louis… he’s not just a St. Louis nikka? :lupe:

It goes from whatever country their parents are from with a "_____-american"

This is dumb, for the most part other races don't do this shyt. If a white family from Germany comes to America, their children aren't German Americans. Same for italy, English, Polish etc. Colloquially they will be white Americans. And it's the same for Asians and Latinos. Once you're that first generation American, your country is no longer your ethnicity it's your race.

It be like yall dont interact with ppl outside the internet. AA can be used as a blanket term for all Americans of African descent (it has historically been used this way) or AAs that can tie their genetic roots back Africans brought to American from the slave trade. "Black" is the race all ppl of African descent fall under but there are varying degrees of "Black" as there are with any race. We only mention it in American, ie Black American, because this is a primary white nation built by white ppl for white ppl. You wouldn't go to Nigeria can call ppl Black, its redundant.

This person your describing is an African American with, for an example, Nigerian roots or a 2nd generation Nigerian - American. No matter which, this person is Black.

Breh have you ever met an Italian-american? These people would let you know that they're Italian even though they were born here in the states. They're are like the Puerto Ricans of the Europeans community cos they would rep their flags whenever given chance. Hispanics for the most part would go by their parents country and be like I'm Mexican, I'm Peruvian, I'm Colombian and etc. Probably the same with asians probably and for a fact middle easterns as well.

The thing is many immigrants would put their ethnic group first/ nationality before race. America is all about race , and see black and white so I can see where your coming from .

But when did you ever heard a white American calling him/herself euro american?

Hell nah I am not AA my people are west African and I identify as such.

In the past I may have chosen AA as an identifier but Black folks let me know that I am not ADOS.

Even though I had a relative amongst those stolen from Africa.

African American should not even be a thing for native blacks. It’s a term that starts and ends with a presumption of ‘outsiderness’ which keeps other groups from seeing us as truly American.

Native blacks should just be American.
Immigrants, African American.

Immigrants, African American.

African American refers to s specific group of people who are descended from slaves in the United States. The identifier goes back to the 1700s. Immigrants are Black Americans or Americans from what ever country they are from. They are not African Americans. However, some African Americans went back to Africa due to being loyalist to the English.

"...The Oxford English Dictionary traced its documented occurrences of “African American” back as far as 1835. (The related term “Afro-American,” which enjoyed a brief popularity in the 1960s, has an 1831 citation in the OED.) But last April, I did a routine search for the phrase in America’s Historical Newspapers, the Readex company’s very powerful database of early US papers, and was surprised to be led to a 1782 sermon published in Philadelphia. The sermon, whose only known surviving copy is at Harvard’s Houghton Library, was titled “A Sermon on the Capture of Lord Cornwallis.” The title page of the pamphlet includes the byline “By an African American.
