I mean, I get why Americans get called out for our stupidity... This shyt is like that thread on that TikTok about Hawaii being next to Alaska in the ocean... So many other countries invest less in schooling but get more out....

In every situation, you start with brackets or parentheses first. And if your teacher taught you otherwise... Yikes.... Blind leading the blind

The 2 is outside the parenthesis tho :dwillhuh:

An equation where you treat the whole right side as it’s own separate part would have a double parenthesis or brackets to indicate doing that entire part before factoring in the left side.

I understand how some of y’all got to 6/6 :ehh:

But to not only be arrogantly but also condescendingly wrong is :hhh:

way i was taught, Eliminating the parenthesis meant eliminating it entirely.

2(3) still has a parenthesis. Were supposed to get that all the way figured before moving on. Meaning 2(3) >>> 6
Can confirm i aced many math tests in school using this principle.

but from what i understand they simply do things differently now.

I see. Parenthesis around a single integer or floating point number have no meaning.

6 / 2(3) ≡ 6 / 2 x 3 ≡ 6/(2)(3)

These are all equivalent expressions and you would evaluate them all left to right as you see them. Now if it were 6 / [ 2(3) ] then you would compute the product in the brackets before doing the division.
