LOL! I don't like your tone but I cant say I disagree with this.

I think parents really need to focus on setting the next generation up. Generational wealth is important to me and in fact, it's my only long term goal at the moment.

I know my tone is hella cac but it's the truth. It's a tough pill to swallow to look at the very people who put a band-aid on your chest and protected you to see the flip side in where they failed in areas.

Ask yourself this question.

In 18 years will you have the same amount of savings you have today?

Most blacks don't have generational wealth due to many things despite being educated. Many just make money to spend it and fail to invest it in something other than a 401K account. They live to work, and die with debt, leaving their off spring with nothing.

It's easier to criticize than fix the problem at hand.

My fault. I did go to hard there, but real spit. Parents should be able to save at least 5-10K. That's enough for 2 years of CC, couple that with grants, scholarships and college is affordable.

If you are going to point the finger at risings costs and the fact that college is a business, point the finger at your parents as well who failed in the business of providing for your future.

I don't know I don't live in the states so I don't know how your education systems work but $20k a year for a piece of paper that doesn't really guarantee you a job right after? Especially in this economy?

Even if you don't want to send your child to college, some sort of post high-schoool education/training is a must, imo. Entreprenuer training and couple thousand to start a small business.

I completely agree with you. I think it would be great if attending trade school was advertised in high schools as much as going to college is. I don't understand why it seems to be so stigmatized these days.

I won't.

At the same time I have every intention of paying for my daughter's education as high as a master's degree, if she goes for a doctorate then I'll help with that as well but she will be paying some part. An undergrad degree is not an option, she doesn't have a choice but to get one.

Oh, I definitely agree. I'm a firm believer in post-secondary.
My sister didn't bother going to college or whatever, she's working at a manufacturing factory. Yeah she makes more money but if she went to school for even a year, she couldve been in a higher position.

I'm just saying. I'm not saying I would tell my kids, go fukk yourself/pay for your own schooling or don't go it's not worth it. I just like to look at it from both sides. I told my mom not to pay for my schooling, even though she offered. I'm just that kind of person.

Ideal? yes, but being realistic and factoring in bad beats in life like unsuspected illnesses and other b/s 5-10K seems reasonable for the avg American household at 50K a year.
