By the way, who said it's the parents' responsibility to pay for your post-secondary schooling? A) You're legally an adult B) It shouldn't be expected for parents to pay anyways. Are you going to expect them to still pay for your shyt and you want to be treated like an adult? :childplease:

You should get mad at the schools scamming the general public for raising tuition beyond inflation. You should also get mad at the school systems training people to be employees for fukked up companies that deny them basic benefits like healthcare. In America, these scam ass institutions of higher learning are charging a mortgage for kids to learn in a 4+ year program and leaving kids in debt for another 20 years.

I also agree on parents preparing to send their kids to school the moment they born. Some of these parents act like kids themselves and not think anything but themselves and that superficial shyt.

Roughly 35K. Some state 40K

Lowest of all races. :smugdraper:

Still believe 5-10K can be saved over a 18 year period.

:whoa: I didn't say it was possible.

Honestly, I wish I was a multi-millionaire so I can create a scholarship program. :sadbron:

I'm working on it :win:

I feel you. Just something! Give a nikka chance in life lmao!

And that's the point. Reason why I'm so passionate about this discussion is I've had many just talk it down with all the feel good catch phrases, "institutionalize this and that" with no real solutions.

Here's the solution. Sacrifice. If you not going to sacrifice 5-10K over 18 years for your child's future(ultimately your future and your grand-kids) I don't know what to say. Then you have young blacks in the 30 and under age bracket, just graduating with crippling loans, thinking this is normal and soon to pass this on to their kids.

Someone has got to break the cycle.

The generational wealth problem with African Americans is a whole different story. Whites have had 500 years plus ideal conditions to build their wealth. Blacks have had less than 100 years and horrible conditions in which to build wealth. It makes logical sense that we would be behind.

Real scenario. Black family becomes educated, makes a good living, moves out the hood. There's is no help above them, and they are the help to all those below them. When it comes time to buy a house, they pay more in intrest and loan fees, while still supporting their family that hasn't made it out the hood. It comes time to pay for college, but the parents don't have much cash to throw at it because they are still paying for their own school loans, plus home loans, plus they are still paying off grandmas house. So their kids take out loans of their own and the cycle continues.

On the other hand a white family has support from above. They go to school get the same degree make the same amount of money as the black family, but instead of paying for grandmas house, grandma gives them a house, and mom payed for their schooling, so when it's time to put their kids through school the parents have both the cash and credit to afford it. Grandma sends money for books and living expenses, the kid goes to school without taking out any loans, credit cards, etc, and when he grows up he passes those benefits to his kid.

This is the current dynamic in America and in my opinion only time will fix it. We have been on a constant rise since we were freed as slaves, and we just have to continue at it.

Im not gonna say they're bad parents, but it definitely helps the child if the parents are at least familiar with the college process.
Except for 2 of my cousins and myself, nobody on either sides of my family went to college.
That doesn't stop us, it just means we hustle a lil bit harder than your average bear. :manny:

It definitely would've helped if my folks had any idea what college was about, but I've been taught to be my own man so I took it upon myself to make it work. I'll let yall know how it works out in 4 years :salute:

You keep bringing up this 5- 10k number, but what proof do you have that parents aren't spending that much or more on their kids education?

I'd say that most parents probably spend more than that regardless if the kids get loans/grants.

Ya nikkas do know they got scholarships and grants out there right?

First you need to raise your kids not to be dumbasses that are smart enough to be eligible. You can have all type o college money but if your kid is dumb as brick it's nothing but a waste of money.

Many of those parents are barely 40 when their kids turn 18, which means they think that it's cool to kick them out cause they want that "me" time to still go out and make up for lost time to go party and live that selfish life BEFORE they have kids. And god forbid they kids have kids of their own, which makes them into selfish grandparents that are still working and still wanting materialistic things.

Sickening cycle that will turn America into a ratchet Nation.

We are not white people and should stop comparing our "progress" to theirs. I know every stat in America loves to compare races but the truth is, there is no comparison. We aren't running the same race, imo.

I try to use the resources available to me in the smartest way possible. Yes, I know that Suzy Q white girl is probably doing the same job as I am and making 5-10k more but I can only work with the resources that I have, not what I could have if I were Suzy Q.
