If you carry a gallon of water with you at the gym, you're an idiot.

There are benefits to consuming 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight per day.
You don't see people hauling jugs of Dymatize from the squat rack to the hack squat machine.

I'll be here when you fail... Cause the Mayo Clinic says the same thing and they're the fukking Mayo Clinic

None of them say anything about hauling a jug around a gym or trying to consume a gallon of water within an hour.

At no point in this thread (currently 13 pages) did I once suggest drinking water was bad.

What I said was, carrying a gallon of water at the gym makes you look like an idiot. Forcing yourself to consume it in an hour guarantees you’re an idiot.

And more than anything, the jokes and sarcasm in this thread were laid down really thick.

A number of people in this thread need more blood rushing into their brains and a little less into their muscles.

WHAT???

You keep moving those goalposts fam... This is what WE were discussing when you zoomed in

"I just googled how much liters a gallon of water is :damn: why would you drink that much water in a day? Why does everything gotta be so big on the other side of the Atlantic? Why?"

Then you came in... If you want to know why they have it at the gym, look at the other 328749324 posts, including mine earlier, that explained if you drinking a gallon per day, then you're not going to buy two containers or keep filling the same one. Put a gallon in the Yeti, go about your day and fill it up again tomorrow

Why would you buy two gallons of water or even one?
You can get water at home. Or at the gym. Or at work.

:picard:

As far as that other side of the Atlantic, everyone knows those Euro dweebs don't drink water.
You want to engage in health discussions with the British? Have you even seen what their breakfast looks like? They spent 500 years colonizing the world because they ran out of dinner ideas outside of Guinness and porridge.

You haven't read your own articles past the titles...

I clicked the first one and it describes the benefits of drinking water period before and after saying:
The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine determined that an adequate daily fluid intake is:
About 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids a day for men
About 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids a day for women
These recommendations cover fluids from water, other beverages and food. About 20% of daily fluid intake usually comes from food and the rest from drinks.

So not only do they recommend having less fluids than a gallon of water (which 4.54 liters)...

... They also take into account the hydration provided by other food items that you eat throughout the day, as they should. So it comes down to 2.96 liters per day, or 65% of a gallon for an average man.

So nah, yall don't need to drink almost twice the daily recommendation to be healthy :heh:

Also, after making my initial post, I stumbled upon this (timestamped). It's 8 glasses here but I assume a similar thing might have happened with the gallon thing.

Our US gallons are 3.75 liters so that's the first problem you're having.. So 20% from the food is .75 liters...

That leaves the suggestion being 3 liters of water... And since they don't sell 3 liter bottles, you either getting a half gallon or whole... And why go small?

Why not the 8 that it used to be? Because that never factored in exercise or a hot day:

What about the advice to drink 8 glasses a day?

You've probably heard the advice to drink eight glasses of water a day. That's easy to remember, and it's a reasonable goal.

Most healthy people can stay hydrated by drinking water and other fluids whenever they feel thirsty. For some people, fewer than eight glasses a day might be enough. But other people might need more.

You might need to modify your total fluid intake based on several factors:

  • Exercise. If you do any activity that makes you sweat, you need to drink extra water to cover the fluid loss. It's important to drink water before, during and after a workout.
  • Environment. Hot or humid weather can make you sweat and requires additional fluid. Dehydration also can occur at high altitudes.
  • Overall health. Your body loses fluids when you have a fever, vomiting or diarrhea. Drink more water or follow a doctor's recommendation to drink oral rehydration solutions. Other conditions that might require increased fluid intake include bladder infections and urinary tract stones.
  • Pregnancy and breast-feeding. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, you may need additional fluids to stay hydrated.

All I'm saying, is people didn't pull this out of their ass.. Doctors and research literally told us to step it up and drink more and suggest 1 gallon. If it's wrong, it's wrong.. But I'm going to need some more people with Ph.D's to tell me that

I didn't know the US gallon was different :ohhh: Got it.

3 liters seems more reasonable, even though it still the biggest amount I've ever heard recommended. And as you quoted, if you add exercising to the matter, you need even more water.

I know that in the UK, they recommend 1.2 to 1.5 liters a day. In France, it's 1.5 to 2 liters for a grown man. I'm willing to bet Latin America is about the same.

So again: I wasn't disputing the fact that it was recommended to yall at some point; my tongue-in-cheek remark was why is the number in America so big? Why is everything constantly bigger?

Cause we fat :mjcry:

The average American man 20 years old and up weighs 197.9 pounds . The average waist circumference is 40.2 inches, and the average height is just over 5 feet 9 inches (about 69.1 inches) tall
