Wouldn't even go...would become an electrician and have my own company...

I know two electricians and man are those dudes rolling in fukking money :wow: I mean...man I can't barely type the words with all the envy flowing through my hands:wow:

One dude does commercial and residential projects and makes as much money as he wants...never works past August and travels the world from August to January and people will just wait for him to come back rather than find another electrician...

Other dude did what the 1st dude did then opened his own business...now he got 5 guys and he hardly works anymore since he is making so much money of their work...

Maybe it's a regional thing but in the Dallas area there is just a shortage of electricians...all these dudes are making money and charging through the nose and they all have that "okay will that is my rate if you don't want to pay it by" attitude...

Both these dudes in their early 40's and damn near retired:wow:

Dude come by my house showing me pictures of him and his wife in France for two weeks...Brussels for two weeks...on some random cruise and I ask him for the cruise info and go to the website and wtf I got to put down a 6000 dollar deposit and he like "oh yeah this isn't that royal caribbean or carnival shyt this is that upper class cruise I just assumed since you staying in this neighborhood you were making money like that" :usure:

Meanwhile I'm working an IT management job posting on the coli about the adventures another man is having cause he was smart enough to get in a field not many people get into and I was dumb enough to get in a field that everyone wants to get into :mjcry:

Somebody dap this post so I can walk away with at least a little bit of dignity:mjcry:

Uncertain grounds
piggybacking off my prior post...i got an email from harvard today telling me to apply

and this time one of the requirements for the program theyre offering me is actually having a bachelors already (for another bachelors) :leon:

up to 64 credits transferrable and no more than 45k total for the degree :leon:

for financial aid/scholarships/grants i cant have any debt on loans and must meet other academic requirements..and i meet all of them and have no debt :leon:

might have to pop on that with computer science and hold off on my europe plans

I'm pretty ok with my major (Communications Technology) even though it's not technically STEM, and doing pretty decently at the moment, though I certainly wasn't making much the first couple years after I graduated. That probably had more to do with me graduating at the worst time (ie. the recession) than my major tho.

My two biggest regrets are -

1. Being lazy in high school and not really trying to get a scholarship or even caring about college before Junior year. I got a 29 ACT without even studying but didn't get any scholarship due to a shytty GPA and no extracurriculars. Had I cared about my GPA I probably could've gotten a full ride somewhere, but instead I had to take out 20k in loans that I'm now paying back. :smh:

2. I'd also network more than I did and make more of an effort to meet people.

I generally enjoyed my undergrad experience, and it was a chance to learn about things that I wasn't good at and narrow down things that I enjoyed and made me happy, as gay as that sounds. I tried econ, tried business/finance route. Could I have persisted and just got it done? Yeah probably. But I hated doing them. I think I realized too late down the road that I really could've have done anything I wanted to. I didn't have that mentality back then though.

If I would've changed anything the only thing I would do differently is MAYBE change my major to journalism. And I would've grinded a lot harder with internships and networking, and wouldn't have thrown a year away at law school. And I would have read A LOT more. And I would've studied abroad. That's about it. :manny:

I have other grad school programs that I might explore later on, and grad schools ain't going anywhere so there's really no rush. I'm out just trying to read, learn, network and gain as much experience as possible at the moment.

I would've done astrophysics instead of Business Management. But the way I went through undergrad? It was fun as fukk, and I would only have fine-tuned my behaviour so that I studied more and smoked just a liiiiiiitle less.

How old is everyone in this thread? Some of the responses could depend on how far along you are in your career. I'm 37.

Every undergrad degree that isnt STEM is a waste of money.
Not at all. Depends what your doing. if i could go back i would have picked an easy major like psychology (which isnt really stem) or biology got a 4.0 and then go on to med school.

Would've done a study abroad for one semester, and not of been so lazy and joined some clubs or organizations.

I went for electrical engineering and I think I would've gone into mechanical or industrial versus electrical.

I probably would've done some more professional networking in the area and joined toastmasters.

I don't subscribe to the idea that unless you're in a STEM major, college is worthless. Seems elitist and flat out incorrect. Every STEM major isn't created equal either. People with a degree in petroleum engineering will have different or better prospects than a person with a degree in pure mathematics.
what school did u go to? why would you change from electrical engineering??

yea fukk it men. i have a masters degree in art history what you got on that. I love art tho what can I say. Worked in they city doing advertising making mad loot at one of the largest AD CORPORATIONS in the US. These soft skilled fukkers are...well...soft.

I am back in school now trying to achieve a BS in Civil Engineering. Got two years done so far and some credits roll over from my other degrees. Hopefully just another 2 years. Should be worth it.
