Sharing clothes with my step father.
Having only 3 pair of jeans that I wore for years. Going weeks without lights and gas. Having one Pair of shoes during the whole school year Fall/winter/spring/summer, they were dusty after awhile. Wearing Fake name brand shoes for years and not even knowing it. wearing my fitted hats until they were Dirty and beaten up because I din't have money to buy them. Sometime I only got to eat once a day, most of the time it's was a bag of chips maby a 50 cent cake. And other days I din't know if he would have eaten that day. We had it better than some but we struggled like most

I wasn't poor... but middle class. I remember when my mama's job laid her off and going to the store with rolled pennies. That big bag of coins was heavy. :mjcry:

As a child, I used to live in the projects and I thank God that I was delivert from that life.

I sometimes get weird cravings for powdered eggs, that unmeltable block of cheese, and canned fruit cocktail.

I didn't but the parents did, when I went back to the grandparents almost every week I'd get a taste of it, I don't wish that on anyone.

The 5 Boroughs
Food Stamps where paper bills, using the subway tokens to pay for food, Ramen Noodles package was checkerboard, wire hangers antenna, having your mom sow Nike and the swoosh onto a $20 pair of sneakers, fried bologna sandwiches, parents stealing the bricks of ham and cheese and other food even the slicer from the job at MLK high school (nyc public schools are notorious for throwing good food away) open the oven door for heat and to dry hand washed clothes, ducking under tables in school because nikkas wanna have shootouts in the playground.

80's baby my childhood was awesome.

Force to grow up poor because my dad never wanted to spend money on us. Put it all on my mother. Driving a 16 year old car. Going to school so I can get out. Haven't bought clothes in so long. Got a good paying job but most goes to school but at least I can go out and buy food. Not so bad always had a roof above me. All the necessities I guess It could've been worse. It's all in the past and I'm changing my future

Govan
Lived in a shytty flat in govan and nearly died when I was a baby because the house was so cold.

I remember using milk tokens in asda and I still use them today.

I had a dinner ticket at school for a free lunch.

The area I lived in was really bad and my house was broken into twice, I remember being pissed because the guy stole the DVD player and the matrix was inside, the second time my mum caught him and locked him in the house until the police arrived.

A guy got stabbed at our front door, my dad went to check him and a neighbour thought he did it.

The YDT, linthouse goucho and crosse posse always fighting in the park

I had great patents though and everyone i knew had no money either so when I was wee I never realised I was poor. It's only looking back now I see it.

Still going to be poor until become a fully qualified nursery nurse.
