Yea 8 hrs of sleep is too much for an adult. At most 6 hrs.

Quality of sleep =/= quantity

Most people don't get quality sleep so they sleep more to compensate

Stimulants, lighting, sound, breathing, nutrient imbalances etc... Messes up the average person's sleep so some people need to sleep more. If you actively seek out how to get quality sleep anyone can go with ~5 hours
