There was a study put out a while ago that said that a white male with a criminal record and no degree fared a better chance of getting a job compared to a black male with no record and a degree.
There have been threads on here that talked about everything from black graduates struggling to start their careers and facing underemployment and unemployment. There have been threads on here citing that africans and west Indians (who people like to use as a measuring bar for African American success in America) have moved to America with degrees and are still stuck in a cycle of poverty. Even in my situation as an educated and accredited black professional with a degree, I was living with white peers of mine who all had NO degrees...and they were able to find work in weeks. While for me I was months unemployed while actively searching for work.
That's reality.

I don't think some folks get it, while simply being "black" has it's inherent disadvantages in the US, there are significant advantages to be being educated, family oriented, polite and law abiding while being black as well. It doesn't mean that your life will completely void of any and all prejudice, but it's certainly a step up and in the right direction from that self-depricating hood nonsense IMO.
I'm sure "Lil Boosie" and many other "woe is me" types would disagree though.

I think that is a very general, sweeping statement that isn't necessarily true.
One of my closest homeboys partly grew up in the suburbs because his parents wanted him out of the hood, so they sent him to stay with his grandmother in the burbs. He struggled with having to stay with his grandmother, who wasn't able to really take care of him. He had to look after himself and his grandmother while being in high school. So he had it real hard.
I think location vs. "having it hard" is circumstantial. Some people had it easy....I know I did. I have family members and friends who didn't. But I understand Boosie's view...he's from Baton Rouge, one of the poorest places I've ever seen in the United States.
