cards got rewards; cash don't. but cash leaves no footprint
They use those rewards to create data profiles. If you're getting something for free you're the product.
I wrote something a while ago about how easy it is to use those datasets to find out when someone is cheating in a relationship based on purchases out of pattern spending habits in new locations. Think they won't leverage that in a few? You'll be getting your groove on during a "business trip" after buying some hats, a bottle of bub and hotel out of town whilst your wife gets targeted ads for a divorce specialist.
And thats just the super basic version.
The truly rich work on the principles of favors and trades, the money they print is just to keep the worker bees distracted.
