Your family as well, especially if you're the youngest. A lot of it has to do with insecurities/perceived shortcomings.
What I've found is a lot of people are afraid of looking inferior to others. People wanna look good every single damn time they're around others. And it's not just people who haven't accomplished sh*t. I was a lurker at the time, but I remember seeing a picture of Jordan with a Chinese basketball team, and he was standing on his toes so that he didn't look shorter than a Center standing next to him. This sort of mentality is a direct result of years of being conditioned to believe that your appearance is the most important thing in the world. Presentation is important, but it's never as important as you think.
If you are significantly more capable (as far as what you can do for yourself and others) than the people around you, then you need to surround yourself with people who do not present as significant of a gap in capability. Why? Because people who know they can do sh*t do not get intimidated by people who can also do sh*t. This is why a lot of successful nikkas you meet will have an attitude of collaboration instead of competition. If you're trying to achieve something great, stay the f*ck away from nikkas who would rather slap you than dap you. If those nikkas happen to be your family and friends? Love them from a distance.
