I enjoyed VA and was impressed by the quality of life middle and upper middle black ppl I encountered had there.

Need to hit up NC and see what's good out there. I met some brehs from NC at networking event in Baltimore and they told NC has crazy state/Fed funds set aside for minority owned businesses.

Seen more black success here than anywhere else I've lived, it's a fact.

Would you recommend Charlotte or Raleigh for a 1st time visitor to NC?

I'd recommend Charlotte first if you're more of a big city type. There is just more entertainment and things to do there, and there's light rail, public transit is strong by southern standards even though it isn't Boston level...

If one had the time I'd say go do both, they are only ~2½ hours apart, and you can take the Amtrak between them if you don't wanna drive. Raleigh is smaller and less to do than Charlotte but it's still a reasonably sized city, it's bigger than anywhere in New England not named Boston. It doesn't have rail transit but bus transit is really robust for a city in its weight class, it has pretty good public transit, and both have extensive freeway coverage. People here complain about traffic but neither are as bad as Boston...

I've found that both cities can unsuspectingly appeal to different personalities, which us why I'd say do both. There are people I thought would love Charlotte but didn't, and people I thought would dislike Raleigh but enjoy it. Overall they are mostly the same place, the differences between the two are real but overblown by native Carolinians. Charlotte is basically just a larger and more developed Raleigh with a larger minority population---->Charlotte is around ~40.7% white, ~33.5% black, ~15.7% Latino, ~6.9% Asian...

Raleigh is basically a smaller and less developed Charlotte with more white people and fewer minorities, and has fewer entertainment options because it's smaller---->Raleigh is around ~52.6% white, ~26.7% black, ~12.2% Latino, ~4.9% Asian...

Charlotte has more of a multicultural and international feel than Raleigh which I think is a plus. Both have ethnic diversity within all the racial groups, both are fairly integrated though I'd say Charlotte is a little more intensely integrated...

Raleigh's black community is just as deeply entrenched as Clt's if not even more so, and Rgh is the more educated city by far at all levels, in terms if attainment and institutions (grade, colleges, universities). Rgh is a more fashionable city with a solid culinary/dine out scene, but Charlotte has a better foodie scene if for nothing else it's larger size and deeper multiculturalism...

Charlotte has wilder hoods and more if them, but if I'm totally honest Charlotte doesn't compare even close to the cities of comparable or larger size in terms of violent crime. Overall Charlotte is really safe, it's so big that you can avoid the bad areas, and there is a LOT of black wealth and success in Clt. It's just that Rgh has even less violence and wild hoods, so juxtaposed against Rgh (Carolinians compare and contrast the two often), Clt looks worse than it actually is...

It's rougher than Rgh. Compared nationally it's in the safest third of cities, maybe safest quarter, though...

Also stress that while Rgh is smaller with less to do, in addition to a strong foodie scene, it has a well above average shopping and retail scene.

The culture in Massachusetts, which is decidedly more progressive than you’ll find just about anywhere else in this country, has nurtured the black community to think and act differently. We’re more educated, more conscious, more communal. There is a greater appreciation of our past, our historic triumphs and defeats, which has conditioned us to view one another with a stronger identification of our shared struggle. Black people up here have a lot of respect for each other.

Our safety nets are stronger, as well, which has made our families healthier. With this comes children who are going to school with a greater capacity to learn and retain the information they’re taught. Thanks to the constellation of world renowned academic institutions that dot New England, the education system in the states are among the best in the country.

My argument is that New England produces smarter and healthier black children.

I have family in Boston, and I have not made it there since covid hit unfortunately.

I like Boston a lot, and I consider it safer than here in Toronto.

These posters have never been to Boston. nearly 30% blac.. way more so than even say L.A.

These posters you quoted are from Detroit, Chicago, and Atlanta. Why bring up LA?

By the way, present Boston is around 21% black, which is still an appreciable number but not even close to 30%. You must don't realize Boston's black population declined 7.7% in the 2010s, between the 2010 and 2020 Census. You're not in a place to shyt on anyone else's black population with so many of us leaving Beantown by the thousands...
