There are way more people whose lives are needlessly destroyed because of an unnecessary bail amount than there are lives that get destroyed because someone was not in jail because of a lack of bail.

Judges will have to make a decision on whether someone poses a threat. Some will try to screw people over that way but in the long run it will create a more transparent system in which people's cases will have to be judged on an individual basis.

There is no reason to uphold an unequal system in which a person's freedom depends on how much money they have access to.

Shouldn’t whether you can afford bail or not come into consideration before you commit a crime?

Outside of Chicago, which is extremely blue, Illinois is very red.. A person can get hemmed up for stealing a candy bar down state if they don't have bail.

Pay attention to the posters who are celebrating this because im not that person. Thats for starters....

You speak as though law enforcement won't just slap charges on someone innocent for the smallest of offenses..

Are you even aware of the hundreds of cases where people were in county lockup for months, then when the trial comes, they drop all charges for insufficient evidence? That happens a damn lot..

People f*ck up and you'd be surprised how many 1st time offenders stop with the stupid sh*t if given a 2nd chance. Especially the younger offenders. Again, I have absolutely nothing for repeat offeders..

And nobody is being "let out of jail" with this law. They're just at home while awaiting trail. Depending on how the tail goes, they still can go to jail.. If they miss court, now they have a warrant for thier arrest..

Its all politics. Judges have been releasing violent offenders in the city already. And kept the non violent offenders locked up until trial.. Judges basically giving reckless individuals a pass to continue to terrorize their own people in the community.
