Sales do matter when the term “classic” gets thrown around cuz that means a wide number of people deen it a great product.
Not necessarily.
There’s always a multitude of factors to look at.
It’s pretty obvious why an album like Tical would outsell Illmatic. And it’s not a direct result of quality.
Id like to know your opinion on what songs on ironman are weak. Cuz the 9 i named are all 5/5. Infact

These 5

Daytona 500
All that i got is you
Winter wars
Motherless child
Soul controller

Can easily go against the top 5 of illmatic.
It’s not about particular songs on Ironman being weak though.
I love Ironman, I just love Illmatic a whole lot more.

And I disagree that those five songs could go up against the five best on Illmatic.

nas was never apart of a group that kills half your list
I was trying to make this point in another thread about "debuts". if dudes were part of a group, I can't really call their solo album a "debut"

I'm still trying to figure out how someone listed Madvillainy as a debut :heh:

That's really good for a weak song. I was really vibing to that.

Though right after, he really talked that shyt on represent.

Nas was a killer on "Represent." You have that Premier beat which sounds like impending danger, like it's time for you to pay for your sins. Then Nas just slaughters it for three whole verses. :wow:

This rhythmatic explosion, is what your frame of mind has chosen
I'll leave your brain stimulated, nikkaz is frozen
Speak with criminal slang, begin like a violin
End like Leviathan, it's deep well let me try again
Wisdom be leakin out my grapefruit troop
I dominate break loops, givin mics men-e-straul cycles
Street's disciple, I rock beats that's mega trifle
And groovy but smoother than moves by Villanova
You're still a soldier, I'm like Sly Stone in Cobra
Packin like a rasta in the weed spot
Vocals'll squeeze glocks, MC's eavesdrop
Though they need not to sneak
My poetry's deep, I never fell
Nas's raps should be locked in a cell
It ain't hard to tell
