Well I can say about my point of view, obviously. SInce I grew in a poor neighbor, not a favela but a poor neighbor. Having to get through typical struggle of a black poor man in the cacman world. I can affirm that I found very this american perspective.

It's hard to have anything, from a bike to a car to a house, cuz a typical job sucks at salary and the taxes are, well, the highest in the damn world.
(well like I could see you pointed some things that are common in USA in the end of the day)

The traffic sucks everywhere. Just look up São Paulo and it's biggest traffic in the world.

All big cities are inflated with people.

I mean, I go up to São Paulo from time to time. I love there because I can game girls way easier than here were I live (full of like I said before) and there's a lot of black dimes in São Paulo.

BUT the city got way many people and is a chaos.


I went to a favela, actually, did you guys played Max Payne 3? I went to that favela where Max go after Fabiana. And shyt is crazy . All those gangstas in american rap songs ain't shyt compared to favela thugs, and I mean foreal.


I need to travel to Rio and Bahia. Places that are specially Bahia.

The predominant religion here is the Catholic church, so there's a lot of influence on society, obviously.

@4fossa what is the job market like down there? Are american degrees valued or is the best bet to teach english? I have some friends there who teach english but it doesn't seem like they make a lot of money.

Man I would recommend this idea. Actually it's a good idea. Specially if you like adventures of course.

You would have a decent salaray, would not be rich obviously. But your qualifications would be welcomed in any place wich need english speakers. If your degree are in the area of teaching english it's certainly a win.

If u have some money saved would be good enough. Just find some connections. I dunno, brazilians in there or some place who send people here to work, etc.

If u have a swag and style, you would pull a mad amount of hot women, forreal. The foreign effect be big here.

That's the problem I notice, a lot of things are romanticized and you think it's a paradise from the outside looking in. But when you actually live there you realize it's not much different than what you left.

But in America there's always emphasis on money. And how much money you make. If you are poor or middle class, it's like every second of your day you are reminded that this person is richer than you, here's something you can't afford, keep working so maybe some day you can enjoy life. in America they make money look like GOD. Materialism, is like GOD. So that leads to a lack of culture where everybody just cares about who has more money than who, who has a better car then who. The most important thing here is WORK WORK WORK. if you like to relax and not work so much you are seen as lazy and a bum.

That's the problem I notice, a lot of things are romanticized and you think it's a paradise from the outside looking in. But when you actually live there you realize it's not much different than what you left.

But in America there's always emphasis on money. And how much money you make. If you are poor or middle class, it's like every second of your day you are reminded that this person is richer than you, here's something you can't afford, keep working so maybe some day you can enjoy life. in America they make money look like GOD. Materialism, is like GOD. So that leads to a lack of culture where everybody just cares about who has more money than who, who has a better car then who. I think the biggest difference between US and places like brazil, panama, etc is that you can disconnect from that material/money mentality. There's places where you can just sit in front of the sea and do nothing, nobody else using smartphones, internet, etc. Its basically you and nature, the essence

America has the best marketing department in the world, everybody is sold a dream.



They probably don't make a lot, but the average Brazilian only makes about $12,000 a year. Take a look at Colombia and Panama, a lot of people speak English in Panama.

I don't need English to be spoken, I'd actually prefer most people do not speak it. I have no problem with having to learn a new language. I signed up for a Portuguese class that starts in 2 weeks and will be in classes the rest of the year.

I do not have a teaching degree of any sort. I have an Accounting degree and a CPA license...but I don't think the latter is used in Brazil.

Materialism exists everywhere, Brazil has it as well, but it's not as overbearing as it is here. For starters, the usual material shyt we have here is just so much more expensive there (cars/electronics).

And to enjoy yourself you always have to spend some type of money. You cant really escape the reality that you have less money, an that you need to work. Even if you find some mental peace, the man next to you is focused on cars money and clothes.

But I want to know how much impact does what classism actually have on their daily lives, and can they really disconnect from that and just live, without that mentality being so prevalent in the community.

Yes they can, some places barely have eletric power, a large number of people live isolated from the "outside" believe it or not
