I will say the one thing I'll never under any circumstance do is a coding assignment. I swear on my dead granny I once spent like a week working on a coding assignment, turned it in, brought in the next day, the interview was pretty much this cac telling me how mind blowing my code was and asking all kinds of questions about my thought process taking notes and all this other bs...only to not get the job because they had already decided they were hiring an internal position and my thoughts are that they were using peoples code as a training tool for their internal hire. Never doing a coding project for free like that again, idgaf.

I hear uber does that lol

Eh having 3 other roomates isnt doing well lol. Also their debt situations could be terrible and in many cases there is a reason these companies provide food and such on their campus (because you probably will be there more than 40 hours lol).

If you have to live 1-2 hours away from work you arent doing well imo
People choose to live that far from work as most 20-something’s want to live in sf (and Oakland) vs the sleepy suburbs of the peninsula where the big companies are. And having a roommate is common, and the 3 roommates is usually if renting a house or 2-3+ bed, they ain’t sharing a 1bd. Great, some people can make 40k and buy a house at 24, but setting the benchmark of your worth and working at world class companies in your fields puts you much further ahead. A lot of people leave and go to secondary markets in their 30’s like Denver, Austin, etc and command much higher salaries than local talent for the fact they're at a higher starting point already and have brands such as google, Facebook, Uber, etc on their resume. Pay dues early and reap a lifetime of rewards...not a bad trade off.

if you decided to spend a week on an assignment for an INTERVIEW...thats on YOU

1. You right. That's why as soon as I see they require you to write an actual program before they interview you I just chuck the job to the bushes.

2. I know you didn't just spend this topic c00ning it up about shytting on a younger breh for not being up to snuff only to turn around and have some bars for a breh going above and beyond expectations :comeon:

Some of you developers who arent even architects need to show receipts on your 150k salaries. Overtime and bonuses dont count towards salary.

I’ve been an architect but a lot companies got rid of the architect role, (my last and current companies did, and I know Netflix doesn’t have architects either). I’m a 12 year vet. My last job I was a Software Architect, my current role I’m a Senior Engineer. I get paid more in my Senior Engineer role and I’m basically doin the same shyt. So the architect label doesn’t mean shyt these days.

My 150k number is based on my 127k based salary with my yearly bonus that is 10%-20% of my salary. So at least I’ll get 150k, could be 160k+.

I have no reason to lie...

What region are you in? And what’s the avg starting salaries for a swe in that region? You seem real caught up on his ask when there is precedent for asking for that much of you look across the entire industry, yes he messed up by not taking into account regional and company prestige differences, but you can’t hate out the gate on some young grad trying to get the best compensation possible, that takes courage. Furthermore, if he was seriously stuck on 120 and that’s no where near what y’all pay, then y’all fukked up for even continuing to interview him, HR/the first phone screen should have booted him.

I’m currently interviewing for new gigs and know I’ve gotten booted from roles that can’t pay what I’m asking, much rather it stop after one convo vs. doing the whole interview only for someone to say their max is $20k less than my minimum.
