what about project managers or other senior IT leaders?

I said overseer, that's a PM. Senior ITs rarely crack 120k. You have to have a major position on a major project to crack 120k, with like 10 years in that position. Like an Oracle developer, I known CACs make 165, but that was in the glory days (Bush and Cheney). 2007, 2008. Govt money is a little tighter. The wars are whining down. Contracts funding is getting cut.

That's another reason I'm getting out. I feel like I'll be forced to leave one day. So I rather leave on my own terms. No way in hell I can make 100k until retirement. 30+ years from now. One skill in life I seem to have is knowing when the best times are behind in a relationship, location and position. My best days in DC have past. Time to move on.

I've got a few years hard work experience in the sciences...

Getting your bachelor's degree away from home?

And it's not the "level of stress" or how hard the work is... it's the distance from his family, the lifestyle, the quality of life, the late hours. Its the work but its also where he is and how he is living. You fukking clown :why:

Good look!

You should be good to eat wherever you are.

My goal is to get my CCNP and RHCE in he next year. I'm already pretty good with Linux and Unix (Mostly RedHat and Solaris). I'm my company's SME when it comes to storage thanks to a lot of projects I did with NetApp.

That + my degree in Electrical/Telecommunications Engineering. I hope to then work with a global company (like I do now but probably a different one) that way I can live in another country and still work for them. I hope to move out of the US by 2017. Nothing left for me here other than the quality jobs and you can work remote in this field (half my company's employees don't live here) so i should be good.

Get ya money, brehs!

I'm not saying my whole stay here was horrible. I've had some great years here, great relationships and great times. I never intended on staying this long. I was going to move after sell my house. Since my job was so gravy (mon-thur). I decided to sign a lease until July. I signed my lease on a Friday, Monday come and my job had to fire half of our team. Mostly Black men of course. With that my schedule changed dramatically. Every other weekend. It's been a horrible winter, whenever im off, it's snowing. It's nice when I'm going into work. Just a miserable time this winter. I can't make it July. Just not worth it.

Small companies like vendors is where it's at breh.

You work in small teams and get high pay and get treated like a king. In big huge companies you will be just another engineer. They got a lot of money to throw around to a lot of different resources. Never works to your advantage.

Good stuff man. Sounds like you're doing your thing. I would move out of this country if it wasn't for my family. The reason I've want to do well was so I could support and help my family. I give every one in my family a stack last fall. Early Christmas. I do it all for my family, that's how I was raised.

Family is always just a flight away breh.

I'm trying to get to the point where i can give back more. I hate going home empty handed. I know my mom just wants to see me but I wanna be able to provide more. + got plans to make moves in Haiti and Costa Rica soon.
Me and my cousin from Haiti are planning to start a farm and restaurant on some lands our grandparents owned. It's a lot of land in an area that's being developed right now.
Got a sweet little thing in Costa Rica who i fell in love with and she wants to have my baby . Tho it could never work (she wants me to move there. She hates the US lifestyle) we plan on doing things together on the business side with some land she and her mom own. I just need to settle my financial situation first.

I agree, I've worked for big and small companies, but the atmosphere is changing. The money isn't flowing as it was. I've been in DC since 2004. I've seen contracts and money flowing, I got me a good bit of it. Since the housing market crash, the money has started to dry up. The govt is making major cuts in military size, bases and infrastructure. This will effect everyone.

Many guys making 100k will be force to make 75k soon. Many will be forced to leave this area. Let's face, most IT dont do a lot of work. Many places are overmanned. Take it from an OG IT, lower your bills and prepare for a bumpy ride.

Ill put it like this junior

This dude can have the same $$$$ left over every month, and the same realistic career opportunities, without the shytty quality of life and excessive late hours.

So what exactly is he gaining by staying in DC, besides the admiration/approval by some misguided college student who doesnt know anything about him but some posts on a message board? :ld: :dwillhuh:

First of all, I'm not some undergrad with no work experience. Miss me with that.

Second of all, this dude honestly said hes willing to work for 40K in a shytty part of the world jsut to "feel better"

dude doesnt know how good he has it.

Why do ya'll never consider the fact that SOME TIMES when people say shyt like this, they're been too melodramatic.

Not every one of these "overworked" people has a legitimate claim.

I've got a few years hard work experience in the sciences...which is why I find it funny dudes are thinking i'm just some kid who has no real world experience

OP is working in one of the wealthiest parts of the country but acting like a little hoe because he can't handle the rigors of his GREAT life.

100K?

in IT?

shyt...he ain't even really working that hard to be honest.

Even the air traffic controller in this thread has more work stress than this guy.

Dude, what kind of job do you possibly have when you're on here at all hours of the day ready to debate for hours at any given hour on any given day with anyone who doesn't agree with your viewpoints in any given thread?
