Tattoos are fine in Japan, if you are a gaijin/foreigner/Black.

Japanese people only look at other Asians with tattoos funnystyle, and that's only due to the connect with the Yakuza.

Yeah, you won't be allowed in some Onsen (Japanese bath houses) or some very exclusive beaches, but it's not a big deal.

This me and my Tattoo artist in Tokyo. As you can see, we both blasted:

When you say you aren't fluent, what do you mean by that? Do you mean you know how to string a sentence together, or do you only know "konnichiwa" and "arigatou"?

Because you're GOING to need some level of fluency in Japan. This is one of the few places in the world where they could give a motherfukk about English, and almost no one speaks it to a workable degree. Hell, you might get people that literally (literally!) run away from you because they are that scared of trying to speak English to a native speaker.

So there is a barrier. But I've always said that Japanese is incredibly easy to learn for people that actually care to learn the language. Kanji (Chinese characters) is probably the most difficult part.

I would say that I'm around 75-80% fluent. In my vlogs, you can see and hear me speaking to Japanese people in Japanese. They didn't even TRY English with me and I'm clearly a Black man so they have no reason to believe that I can speak Japanese :mjlol:
Please post a quick video of you speaking Japanese. I want to be motivated/impressed.

Prolly all of that, to be honest.

I just tried to do a 23 and me and they fukked up the sample, so I have to send it back :snoop:

My cousins just did one, and they came back like 70 something percent Nigerian, so that's where I think the majority of my family comes from. I do know that I have Korean heritage though.

Interesting, I find learning kana, kanji/vocabulary the easiest part. Few rounds of SRS and it's mostly locked in. The grammar is so alien to me though that I'm :dwillhuh: at sentences with symbols I recognize but am still unable to understand what it says.

Yeah Kana in general was easy, and really so is Kanji. The difficulty comes when you realize there are thousands and thousands of Kanji that you are expected to remember AND the fact that almost every single Kanji can have up to 4 or 5 different pronunciations, depending on what part of the sentence it's in.

日 can mean "bi", "hi", "jitsu" or "nichi", but it can also mean "ka" :mjlol: :snoop:

shyt is a pain in the ass, all because the Japanese didn't want to get rid of the Chinese pronunciations.

That's just how it is, broski. :yeshrug:

Some people won't even talk to you on the fact that you're Black. Let me explain.

In Japan, in general, every Black person you see will be AFRICAN. Not African British, or African American, FROM THE MOTHERLAND.

Typically, those brehs work the club areas (like Kabukicho and Roppongi in Tokyo. I'm not as familiar with Osaka). These guys are known as "touts", and their main goal is to nab a foreigner and get them in their overpriced club. They almost exclusively speak English or a broken form of English. They'll also occasionally be soliciting johns for prostitution-- this happened to me NEAR CONSTANTLY when I was lost in Shinjuku a little while back.

These nikkas are MAD aggressive, and some will even grab you :snoop:

So I said all that to say this-- Japanese people can't tell you from an African tout breh. We all "look the same" to them. If you approach one of them speaking English, they can't tell you from a tout trying to get them into a club or promote a club.

If you speak Japanese however, their guard goes down, even if only a little.

So you can try to hook up with chicks using Google translate, but personally, I've only seen people get so far without the language. But hey, it's a first time for everything, right?

Good luck, fam. :myman:

I actually heard that African men were messing up the game in Japan, but I just thought that was cac fear-mongering because I got that off of a reddit post a few years ago.
