2. He has no power to cause division, since it already existed. We were never one big happy family of Black people. Not here, and not even over on the Continent with all of the tribalism going on over there. Let's not act like he is the start of this contention between groups, because he is not. He is just another symptom of the problem that has been going on since before I was born. Even my grandfather told me stories about his experiences in his youth. So there is no need for this revisionist history on this, because we have never been truly aligned with each other.
3. While there is no problem being focused mainly on your own particular ethnicity's issues, using a demogague as the spokesperson does not aid in that effort. So Tariq, Umar, etc should not be in my opinion considered at the forefront of any discussions about how to better the position of Black Americans. Them being on the peripheral is fine, but this idea that they are or should be a leading influence is assinine at best.
4. I know my statement above will piss off some on either side, but the truth is neither side's hands are clean on this issue. Neither side has the moral high ground. Since I am Black American, I will though stand with my people first since every other ethnicity has made it clear that they will stand with theirs first too. So I am perfectly fine with my people making our issues our primary concern and the issues of everyone else secondary or more.
