@ people thinking Kobe would take a paycut....
Dude signed a 3 year 82-84 million extension(which was offered since the beginning of that season) a few years back but was holdin out for 3yr90 million.

at some of you acting like you'll get half of his contract. Besides, do you really think Kobe has to play mind games in the media to negotiate his contract? The front office has to pay him whatever he asks for or the town of LA (along with Canada, DC, Texas, etc) will riot.I think it would have been smarter to say he's willing to take less for the team and then ask for like 25 mil. It is "less" and it makes it sound more reasonable. With the way he said it, he seems like he's planning on squeezing every penny he can out of the team. Either way, they have to pay him whatever he asks for or they'll look stupid for not amnestying him when they had the chance.

I don't think he's playing mind games at all. I think its a pride thing. A "pay cut" makes it sound like his skills are diminshed and his elite playing days are over. And they could possibly be. But he's not going to admit that before the season starts.
Kobe's not going to negotiate against himself right now. He'll try to get max of course. He won't.

at the real job comparisons. For the billionth time, you can't compare pro sports to being an overnight stocker at Wal-Mart. That said people take less money in order to follow a dream or a higher purpose all the time. Maybe a 6th ring ain't that deep for him.

Prolly 60 or so. Even more in his prime. The NBA salary structure is a joke.

As a Heat fan I hope Kobe gets 40 mill a year for the next 10 years ....No doubt he "deserves" it...But as a Lakers fan I don't see what objective that's gonna accomplish for your franchise...
