People over-thinking it man. It's just beats and rhymes. No one asked him to do a Freeway/Statik and do it in 24 hours or a Skyzoo/9th Wonder and do it in 3 days. But you have a lot of cats making albums pretty fast doing albums pretty fast. Jay did 9 songs on Blueprint in a weekend.
Even Just Blaze I think did Exhibit C in like 30 mins. P.S.A. he did in 10 mins or so. Kingdom Come he did in less than that. He even said if it starts to take more than 30 mins he usually scraps the beat.
I understand perfectionist personalities, but at some point, no one cares if your snare is half a decibel higher or not, or if you need to check 30 takes of your verse. Less is more. Record some dope music and put it out. It's a shame. I don't even expect to hear Act II anymore, but he had something so special with Exhibit C. That was a perfect story. Played on Tony Touch by Just, released on iTunes, no hook, took the game by storm.
Damn near a perfect song. People calling him the second coming of Nas. Working with arguably the most talented producer alive, and he just never did anything else. One of the most epic busts in hip-hop history. I think it's worse than Detox. With Detox I can understand. Interscope is involved, Dre has head phones, he was probably scared of past expectations, already nobody thought it was dropping, etc.
Jay Elec didn't even drop the ball. He never stepped up to the plate. But he did have lightning in a bottle, and Exhibit A and C are 2 of the best rap songs of the past 10 years.
