?

I would own mad shyt, so if they try to blackball me, it ain't gonna make me broke.
But you're willing to throw what you have away to be a martyr. Nobody's gonna volunteer to be that after achieving everything they wanted for them and their families unless you truly believe you're there to serve a bigger purpose than sports. Athletes who make more money than Ali ever saw just want to enjoy their life and their people around there. Remember this is the age of the Brand. You're not just looking out for yourself

That kind of thinking is why c00ns run shyt. Yes, you can brand yourself, but not at the expense of your integrity.

Whose integrity right now is compromised? Are you gonna tell me every athlete everywhere is c00ning it up? Not everybody is wired to be what Ali was. Not everybody wants to sacrifice themselves for someone other than their family. They'll leave that up to people whose JOB it is to look out for everyone before themselves.

There's the problem: there is NO ONE like Ali is right now. Not One. Even a few will have them on the ropes and think twice of injustice.

Now everyone want to live that ballin lifestyle.

And there doesn't have to be an athlete or entertainer to take his place. That's where you're misguided.

Played out argument:camby:

He's not entirely wrong. Floyd is about that paper first and everything else comes after. He has become more outspoken on behalf of black fighters during his retirement tho. Props to him on that.
Fair enough, I can respect this, detail is always paramount

It's hard to compare these eras. Vietnam and the civil rights movement made things very different from today. Ali risked more but more was at risk, in general.

Today there is less risk. I really don't think LeBron would have risked much by saying something about Tamir Rice. He spoke up about Trayvon and nothing happened. Obviously he could go too far if he talked about white supremecy too much but I think there's plenty of room for athletes to talk about shyt today.

The problem today is that people are conditioned to dismiss athletes and entertainers. There's a constantly level of disdain and the "stop telling me what to think" mentality. And I don't think athletes help themselves because many aren't involved in the community. You don't see these guys unless it's a corporate endorsed charity event. Ali was using his money to directly help black causes. I won't dismiss LeBron's work in charity and education but him being bigger than life hurts. He writes a check, a story is printed in ESPN, and that's that. People want to see you, touch you, etc.
