His flow was patterned after Kane. The idea of it being a good or bad imitation is irrelevant. I’m certain Kane would have been much tighter delivery wise but it still doesn’t take away from the fact that you can tell Kane was an influence on him

“To the extreme I rock a mic like a vandal...”

The way he put those bars together while the beat stopped is something totally out of Kane’s playbook.

It’s clear he admired Kane as a rapper.
rhymed banjo with candle.
The flow for that bar was probably the crown Jewel of his entire career

Yeah see I remember the Arsenio shyt but not the specifics of how he got exposed. I would've been in 8th grade.

I just remember there was word of it in....I wanna say Word Up! or some shyt. Where Luke was like :dahell: because he had no idea what Vanilla Ice was talking about.

After that it was pretty much a wrap.

It's funny you mention Drake because J. Prince said he was actively trying to sign Vanilla Ice back then.

I thought J. Prince was a clown since that interview. Because if Vanilla Ice had the backing of Prince and Rap-A-Lot....it would've given an official stamp to sucker shyt damn near at the inception of hip-hop. Then later it came out that J. Prince don't even listen to rap and only sees it as a way to make money....soured me to a lot of Rap-A-Lot related history.

Fred.

In them days J was just starting out and probably anxious to turn his money over. He would’ve signed the singing chipmunks if he thought they could’ve helped him go legit. We’re just lucky it never happened.

Funny thing about vanilla ice is that before the deal he was performing in the black clubs around Dallas and Miami. His biggest problem that always gets overlooked is that his label tried to use him to get MC Hammer out of his spot so they basically tried to turn him into the white MC Hammer.

Ice Ice Baby is lyrically and technically sound from a hip hop standpoint. All facts.
