In most U.S. States a minmum wage worker would have to work 80+ hours a week to afford rent

Most are lazy bums who think they have a right to other people's money and would rather try to drain money from members of society who are actually productive, instead of actually working hard and pulling themselves up by their bootstraps like normal people. :troll:

The Rothschild's American branch (CFR) is suggesting that their Federal Reserve Bank ease up on the peasants.

Even the Council on Foreign Relations Is Saying It: Time to Rain Money on Main Street

There is a third reason for handing the job to the Fed. It is actually in the interest of the banks – the Fed’s real constituency – to issue a national dividend to the laboring masses. Interest and fees cannot be squeezed from people who are bankrupt. Creditor and debtor are in a symbiotic relationship. Like parasites and cancers, compound interest grows exponentially, doubling and doubling again until the host is consumed; and we are now at the end stage of that cycle. To keep the host alive, the creditors must restock their food source. Dropping money on Main Street is thus not only the Fed’s last bullet but is a critical play for keeping the game going.

I agree, the cost of living is far too high... but since a look at cost is off the table around here, lets discuss a negative income tax :sas1:

If you support welfare, you should support this without question, as it comes with the added benefit of ending the pesky issue of min wage. :sas2:

That sounds like a horrible idea. :scusthov:

Not only would it provide a disincentive for people on the low income side to work, but it'd also be an incentive for businesses to pay workers as little as possible (at least for any jobs that would pay below the minimum income anyway) since the govt will make up the difference and people won't care. Plus that would shift costs of the minimum income to the public (ie. taxpayers).

The cost is already on taxpayers...

Moreover, unemployment would drop as employers would be able to pay less, and employ more...
more people would be participating in the workforce building much needed human capital, and it wouldnt need to be debated every 5-10yrs they way min wage does.
What exactly is horrible about it(in comparison)?

unless you are mentally or physically challenged.
There is no reason to be working at a minimum wage job for life.
If you have a child, with medical issues, you'' automatically be working two jobs. Finding an entry level job that pays more than minimum wage is very difficult, being able to apply and interview for a job while you have 2 other jobs and a child is even harder, being able to do all of that, and get hired for that job is nearly impossible. Trying to go to some community college classes so you can get an Associates an increase your prospects is also pretty difficult, especially if you have a child. Once again, there are 24 hours in the day and to work to pay for school, take adequate care of your child, and go to class + studying... Well you get the picture, nearly impossible. Add things like family/friend tragedies, mental issues (including depression), abuse, distance, transportation, and you can see that some people's boots don't have straps. Also think about people who may have committed felonies when they were 18 (young and stupid, right?), now once they get out, the job market is even WORSE.
Also think about the fact that there simply aren't enough non-minimum wage jobs to satisfy a job market for the over-qualified, there are people who will be stuck in minimum wage for life just based on statistics.

Employers would just start paying every unskilled position like 5 cent/hr (they'd have no incentive to pay decent wages for any job where they could find somebody to work for the minimum income) and the government (ie. taxpayers) would have to basically subsidize that fukkery.

And ultimately it'd backfire because you can't make money out of thin air.

If you have, for example, literally EVERY fast food worker making 5 cent/hr and having their income subsidized by the government (which is what would happen since there's no longer an incentive to pay them any more), then that puts a huge burden on the government to pay for all that (especially since none of these people are paying taxes anyway) and would end up (in terms of taxes) screwing over anybody who made more (but not a huge amount more) than the minimum income. It would also be a disincentive for low-income workers to try to increase their skills/income, since unless they can make something over the minimum it wouldn't matter.

It would make a lot more sense to come to some sort of consensus on what a reasonable minimum wage would look like, and then index it to inflation so it doesn't have to be changed. As opposed to having taxpayers basically subsidize slave wages.
