This culture also doesn't only exist in tech w/ the Silicon Valley, medicine and law have similar mentalities: 70-80 weeks are common and expected in BigLaw, the same for physicians and surgeons. Venture Capital and investment banking are also guilty of extreme hours, and while the compensation for the aforementioned jobs is fairly high (in the low to mid six figures depending on field and seniority), it starts to become a bit inhumane and the definition of a rat-race. At least medicine involves and tangible, beneficial product.
