I don't always get what's going on, but I think the idea is that the crowd doesn't know what's best for business, only authority does, so they hand pick champs they can control and make into huge stars beyond mere fan cheers.

well it made sense with austin i think. vince was the old school conservative type and he didn't think austin fit his mold for a champion. he didn't want austin to become bigger than the WWF and he also wanted to remind austin that he could control him anytime he wanted to.
john cena on the other hand is vince mcmahon's wet dream. if anything you would expect vince to orchestrate it so that john cena STAYS champion.

they don't want roman reigns to the be the champion and yet every time he has gotten a title shot (with the exception of the rumble win) was because THEY granted him one.
mcmahon's idea of punishment is just a title match with a stip. it's the dumbest fukkin thing i have ever seen. you have to believe they are smoking glass in those creative meetings.

Because its not the guy they want to be on top and they're stubborn control freaks, so they'd rather lose out on that money than not be in control.
It's really dumb but its actually the most realistic storyline they've ever done, because they do the same exact thing non-kayfabe in real life.

Vince always told Austin he makes him too much money to fire
Austin and D Bry made kayfabe sense. Vince was trying to run a respectable company and Austin as the face of it drinking beer and flipping people off didn't fit that. With D Bry, it was that they wanted a larger than life star on top, not a guy who looks regular.
Cena and Roman make no sense. The kayfabe reason they use is that there's a promo where the authority asks then to sell out and bow down to them, and Cena/Roman refuse, but that's it.

The Authority never really got on Cena's case until that Survivor Series storyline where Sting saved Ziggler. They ducked talking about Cena for a long time..especially during that Blandy is the type of face of the company we want. That was basically speaking on Cena but refusing to bring his name up in the promos and convo since Cena can't keep his own heat.
Stephanie McMahon is a horrible character. She hates Bryan...she brings up her being self empowered business woman and mother all the time to no reaction....she came out like a proud mother to bring that Revolution gimmick to Raw after Sasha/Bayley/Becky had yet another 5 star match. She's all over social media doing Be a Star and all of that $hit while her character punks out most male talents..even Roman until they let him get a payback on Cripple H.

I'm watching this Smackdown episode a few weeks after WM 17..the episode after Austin and Cripple H beat down the Hardyz and laid into Lita with a steel chair. They just came out bragging about no one being to stop them..got rid of Rock, beat down Jim Ross in Oklahoma, beat down the Hardyz, and Austin going off about Lita. At the end though, they had Jeff Hardy run in the ring with a chair and blasting Austin, Cripple H in the face, and then doing the Twist of Fate on Stephanie. That type of $hit is LONG dead when it comes to measures to shut up Stephanie. They need to have their top female face shut down Stephanie str8 up...everyone kept saying Brie was gonna get a payback for the Summerslam lost but all they did was turn her heel out of NOWHERE to be Nikki's cheerleader during that title reign
