In the 98 Finals, Greg Ostertag was so bad offensively the Bulls didn’t bother to guard him. Could this happen today?

Paul Pierce said Rodman would be unplayable in this era since he was a zero on offense

he wouuld be wrong, Rodman would be killing even more so on the boards and even more valuable because of the additional possessions he would provide.

To be fair, this was only one game where this happened.
Every other game in the series was extremely close and if Jordan doesn't have one the greatest final 1:30 in NBA history in Game 6, the series goes 7 games.

Most of the games in the 97’ series were very close too. It was a pretty bizarre game when you look at all the 12 games they played in the 97-98 finals.

Pippen taking charges was one of my favorite things in this game. He took a few of them, which unfortunately ended up hurting his back. One of them was on the fast break with Karl Malone coming at him full speed.

Jazz outplayed the bulls in both series iirc. More possessions better shooting percentages, Held more leads. 97 was a tied series at 2-2 and they had a 17 point lead they choked away in game 5 and 98 should have been a 7 game series.

Remote 5 starred this thread :laff: LeGBT are all the biggest frauds in this Stan shyt.
It’s why he’s not to be taken serious in these “stan” type threads. He’ll act high & mighty when it’s a thread outright no hand hiding dissing Bron tho

I’ve been consistent about both sides & these threads need to stop. One reason only why this thread was made

A 33 year old Gobert - who in the prime of his career averaged 17-11 on 60% shooting - shot 13-22 in the WC finals.

Ostertag at 24 years old went 1 - 7 in 54 point game while being left unguarded.

The other players who platooned at Center, Adam Keefe and Greg Foster went a combined 15-41 from the field. :skip:

A 33 year old Rudy Gobert out of his prime would have been a significant upgrade over any big man on the Jazz roster. Sloan would’ve killed for an all defense 2nd teamer averaging 8 points, 9 rebounds on 58% shooting. Are you kidding me comparing him to Ostertag :mjlol:

Gobert and this new guard.
Whethee euro or domestic players in total generality. In comolete totality lack the blacktop experience and ferocity.
to have played in the previous era.
The problem with kids in the nba is the players are all white country club luxury sports league program players and not grasssroots built players. With different experience and ability of play. So they all fall into safe zone suits socially and professionally or fail.
Plus the coaching has no ability.
to analyze talent and use it to their effective ability. to change or influence outcomes at all.
As well as having no grasp of high percentage winning basketball theory and execution at all whatsoever.

The 90s was the goat big man era, but we still have threads like this.

How many hall of fame bigs did the bulls have to face in the finals/playoffs. Out of all of them you pick Greg Ostertag?

Then they try to deflect and talk about a perimeter based league. Beating the old guard.
It is a joke.

The ol guard would have only had to lay minor lumber store wood.
on any of the new guard and they would fold.
Plus because of the new rules to allow traveling. The entire new guard plays oc and would have gotten physically intimidated and dominated. Plus injured playing oc as fukk. When the entire old guard had easy counters.
to get any type of oc players out the paint and rendered non-effective.

90s NBA was :scust: shyt was like watching paint dry.

Imagine having to sit through back to back NBA playoffs years & watching games with all time scoring lows? Greg doesnt have a job in the league if they didn’t add as many teams as they did.

Theres a reason why the Jazz scored 58 points in one game.

MJ was the league’s saving grace.

They were pretty evenly matched.

98’ is the one Utah probably should have won. The Bulls weren’t as deep as they had been and were up there in age. It didn’t look good for Utah after the game 3 massacre, but the Jazz had HCA and sent the series back to Utah after winning game 5.

Pippen was struggling to move because of his back and the Jazz weren’t able to take advantage as much as they should have.

They did have some bad luck with the officiating though, with those 2 missed shot clock calls.

As one who rooted got Utah in both series, I think they lost due to them, not Mike and Co. They didn’t know how to close out games correctly, and made bone headed plays that cost them. Their supporting cast (bench) wasn’t helpful and Ostertag was horrible. Also, that damn Shandon Anderson missing an EASY lay up in crunch time killed them. Too many mishaps at the wrong time and the Bulls capitalized.
