In the 98 Finals, Greg Ostertag was so bad offensively the Bulls didn’t bother to guard him. Could this happen today?

As one who rooted got Utah in both series, I think they lost due to them, not Mike and Co. They didn’t know how to close out games correctly, and made bone headed plays that cost them. Their supporting cast (bench) wasn’t helpful and Ostertag was horrible. Also, that damn Shandon Anderson missing an EASY lay up in crunch time killed them. Too many mishaps at the wrong time and the Bulls capitalized.
Yep if you rewatch both series you’ll see they should’ve won both years.

Those Shandon Anderson misses were awful.

All of these were in the 4th Q of game 6 in 97’.

Wym could this happen today?! It’s already happening. Cacalytics types are fascinated by the concept of defense and dirty work players. Go head on over to Reddit. They were adamant Gobert was better than Donovan Mitchell. They LOVE Draymond. And those are the nerds Denzel was talking about who run basketball.

So yes this could happen and it is happening as two guys were just drafted lottery with no real expectation to ever become scorers, Maluach and Rudy 2.0 Joan Beringer. Last year it was Clingan

90s NBA was :scust: shyt was like watching paint dry.

Imagine having to sit through back to back NBA playoffs years & watching games with all time scoring lows? Greg doesnt have a job in the league if they didn’t add as many teams as they did.

Theres a reason why the Jazz scored 58 points in one game.

MJ was the league’s saving grace.

:laff: You don’t like 90s basketball and you’re a “Lakers fan” who didn’t like Kobe’s career

So all your basketball interest the last 30-35 years as a 60 year old “Lakers fan” is basically suking off Brons dikk :laff: you was out here hating basketball until 2003 huh :laff::laff::laff:

It’s easy to glorify the past…until you have to watch it.

History remembers the wins and the highlights. It doesn’t remember how they won or the many lowlights along the way.

Basketball is better now compared to the 90s.
The same way people in the 1990s looked back at the 1960s era of basketball while cringing.

Yes, Kendrick Perkins in the 2012 Finals. Brooks didn't want to take Perkins' bumpkin ass off the court. How soon y'all forget.

You thought you ate :heh:

It’s not about who’s better it’s about player type. A guy doesn’t need to be ‘better’ to prove the league is going after that player type

It’d be like if I said ‘the league is looking for all big point guards’ and you post magic Johnson’s stats :mjlol::comeon:

Man we can’t keep doing this when you have foreigners and white boys running things right now. Fools looking for Cooper Flagg to save the league :mjlol: I’ve heard people talk more about basketball because of him lately. These white folks bout to go crazy if this dude ends up doing well. Let’s stop worrying about the 90’s and just worry about what’s happening now.

To be fair,

(1) The direct comparison to Rudy Gobert is Dikembe Mutumbo... Greg Osterstag is more along the lines of Daniel Gafford, who was the starting center of a Finals team just last year. Those kind of centers still (and will always) exist; hell if the Knicks didn't choke to Indiana, we'd have seen another one with Mitchell Robinson in the Finals. The Osterstags (90s), Rasho Nestersovics (early-00s), Tiago Splitters (2010s)... Obviously as time goes on, we'll slowly but surely continue to see that archetype be more skilled... from the Plumlees to now the Isiah Hartensteins.

(2) the series before the Bulls, Utah swept a 61-win Laker team with 3-all stars (Shaq-all nba, Eddie-all defensive, Van Excel) and essentially the same core role players (Horry-27 yrs old, Fox-28, Fisher 23) that would 3-peat once the Jazz got old and Kobe matured. Malone equalized if not outplayed Shaq no different than Hakeem did 3-years prior.. So while Utah, Malone, and Sloan were mostly choke artists, they were also a damn good team who in that 2-year span dog-walked every team but the Bulls. And lost game 7 of the 1996 WCFs to the 64-18 Sonics by 4 points... otherwise they'd have potentially gone to the Finals for 3-straight years (96-98).
