In the entire 40 year history of New York hip-hop, is JAY-Z the overall king?

None of them have been on top as long as Jigga has. LL hasn't gone plat since Phenomenon (1997) Every single one of Jay-Z's solo albums went platinum, from Reasonable Doubt to MCHG.

You keep saying Jay went platinum, LL didn't
Like I said, what does fame have to do with being an MC? :yeshrug:

If Jay is the King Of New York he doing a terrible job. Just seeing how far NY has fallen really speaks volumes about the leaders of NY hip hop. Nas too. I mean yeah they are great MCs and doing well in their own right, but when's the last time they collabed with some artist from their own city? TI raps with ATL dudes all the time, Dre still fukks with upcoming LA artists (the two biggest Compton MCs in the last decade he helped put on).

A King would try lift their city up, not just aim to be the best. NY is in the worst shape it has ever been and a big part if it is that the "Kings" of NY don't actually fukk with NY.

Nas is the King but i'm not mad at anybody that says Jay is, the battle is between those guys and that's for sure.

and no he hasn't been on top 17 years, out of 40 years of hiphop he probably ran atleast 4-5 years.

1998
2000-2001
2003

DMX, Nas, Eminem, Nelly, Ja Rule, Lauryn Hill, Tupac, Biggie, Jeezy, 50 Cent, T.I., Ludacris, Drake, Lil Wayne, Kanye, Kendrick, & Ross fill in those other years from 1994 til now.
You do realize that he said NY hip hop right.....

Jay-Z was on top of NY (though with DMX for part of it) from 98 to 01. Then pretty much since he came out of retirement in 2006. You can literally make an argument that he's been the King of NYC over 25% of the history of NYC hip hop. His run really can't be argued with if we're talking from a visibility standpoint.

People will vote for their favorite emcee though.

Hilarious Thread, Jay ain't the King, he gets dominated in every category

Influence: Run DMC, Melle Mel, Rakim
Complex Lyrics: Big L, Big Pun, Kool G Rap, Nas
Longevity: Ll Cool J, Nas
Punchlines: Biggie, JadaKiss, Big L
Charisma: Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick
Rocking the crowd: Doug E Fresh, KRS One

The only category he dominates is... umm... fame? :yeshrug:
Call me crazy, but I'm not sure that's an important aspect of being an MC :bryan:
IMO he may not be #1 in any category...but he's top 5 in EVERY category. He's the GOAT because overall he is the best...

Anyone other than Jay or Nas being mentioned as the GOAT to me is laughable :heh:
