Yeas it did... just not to the level of basketball. Thats all I'm saying.

I'm 34 years of age and I recall growing up there were few athletes names I knew from the jump

  • Pele
  • Diego Maradonna
  • Michel Platini
  • Yanick Noah
  • Borris Becker
  • Michael Jordan
  • Magic Johnson
  • and a few others

To you in the U.S. the name Muhammad Ali may have meant something. But to many in most countries it simply did NOT. Dont get me wrong breh. I'm not saying boxing wasnt/isnt popular. It just doesnt reach the level of basketball and damn well not that of soccer, period.

#1 Wasnt that JORDAN's prime?
#2 Basketball leagues were all over the world way before the dream team breh. Italian leagues. Turkish leagues. Russian leagues. The world didnt stumble onto basketball in 1992 :what: What kinda self centered thinking is that? And Jordan and Magic were well known around the world way before the dreamteam

To me in the US? Dude....I have foreign parents and was outside the country as well in the 80s. shyt....The c00ney vs. Holmes fight was one of the biggest events on the PLANET.

You have no idea what your'e talking about saying Boxing was never a top 5 world sport. Tyson was the last TRUE global heavyweight superstar....MUCH more known than MJ.

I'm 49 years old and have lived on all 7 continents at various times in my life. I've been to the seven major hotspots of Africa: Angola, Soweto, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique and Botswana. I've traveled from Phucket to Nantucket. No athlete....I repeat.....NO athlete is as popular as Michael Jeffrey Jordan.

I've seen the Jordan logo carved out in the Antarctic snow and will upload the photo upon request.

I've seen parents in Zanzibar demand that their newborn, on his exit from his mother's vagina, be welcomed into this world wrapped in a Jordan jersey in hopes that his greatness rubs off on the newborn.

I've seen a Chilean man, with no money left to bet in a heated game of poker, bet his father's life instead, purely because he read on internet message boards that Jordan pulled a similar stunt.

Jordan's influence and popularity is long, both globally and temporally.
Tell these fools. Only person who beat Jordan is PROBABLY Pele, @NYC Rebel. And that's because Peles prime was before the media was so huge. Else Pele would be even further ahead

In the 80's Tyson probably was more known on a worldwide basis. But once the 90's hit and Jordan started winning titles along with the Dream Team and his shoe becoming a fashion icon he probably was more known by then.

The fact you thought that post was serious is more proof of how delusional you are when it comes to things :snoop:

You really think that nikka saw a carving of Jordan in Antarctica? Word? :stopitslime:

Being captain obvious about whos popularity waned and peaked isn't really proving anything.

I'm older than most in here. Old enough to remember when being the heavyweight champ of the world meant you were the most grown man walking the planet. MJ never touched Tyson's peak of popularity. Tyson was the last true heavyweight boxing superstar. Nothing was like being a popular heavyweight champ.

As someone who was living overseas in a second world country with no international TV when they were both in their primes.....everyone knew who MJ was, we knew about Tyson in passing but MJ was bigger easily.

Well ok at both of there peaks I will still say MJ was more famous. And that's taking away nothing from Tyson. But with MJ on commercials several times a day his shoes being must have items and with people like grandmother knowing who he is I don't think it's a stretch to say he was more popular than Tyson. Yeah at one time the heavyweight champ was the most known athlete on the planet but by the 80's the heavyweight title wasn't as big as it was in the earlier day's even thought it was still a huge deal worldwide.

How old were you when Tyson was in his prime? Seriously.

You know about Tyson in passing because his prime had already passed.
