ya'll can't be serious.

globalization, the advent of new technologies and television in second/third world countries makes it a no brainer that Jordan in his prime was more popular than Mike Tyson on the simple fact his image was carried way further in places and households that Tyson in his prime could have never reached.

The true test of popularity IMO is to evaluate the impact or recognition of an athlete in place were either one's respective sports had no appeal or no following at all, places that are way out there. Based on that, there is no way someone can argue that Tyson had that reach.

There's no point in arguing that boxing is more global than basketball. The fact is Michael Jordan, the Chicago Bulls & Nike IN THEIR PRIME were way more GLOBAL than Tyson.

so nobody tryna debate this point heh ?

They weren't watching games, bruh.

Why are you moving the goalposts?

went from
"they don't know who Jordan is"

to

"they bought the sneakers because their kids wanted them, not because of Jordan"

to

"they weren't watching games"

I can agree with that.

I ain't tryna argue that Tyson in his prime had no rival in popularity but as much as boxing was a global sport back then, second/third world countries access to information and media was not popping back then like it was during MJ's era.

Dog...they know the Jordan brand more than knowing MJ. That's not moving the goalpost.

Very true. Yet the word of mouth back in the day in being world champ was world wide.

shyt was top of the food chain status. Supreme male shyt. Nothing was more popular in sports.

Tyson had super fights in the 90's

Mj' was most dominant in the 90's

Boxing was bigger than basketball in the 90's, basketball only took over in the 00's. So prime for prime tyson was more global.

i'll put it like this, Tyson was probably more popular at his peak in the Occidental world and first world countries.

But Jordan's image/brand has reached places and populations that have most definitely never heard of Tyson
