As I stated in another thread, Tyson had Latin America on LOCK. Boxing and soccer are the most popular sports in latin america, and there was no one on Tyson's level in his prime. My fam is from Guatemala and a Tyson fight was always a huge event, they used to nickname any brolic young kid "Tyson". Jordan wasn't on that level.

In the 90s?:stopitslime: just stop
Do you know who Guccio Gucci is? Could you even tell me if thats a male or female?

Micheal Jordan is like that to the majority of non-US Air Jordan owners/seekers/knowers. Successful shoemaker, sex unknown.

How you not even gonna be the most famous man with your own name? "MJ" refers to one person and one person only in the eyes of the world.

Because a brand doesn't automatically tie itself to an athletes popularity.

It's like Puma Clydes and people having no idea they're from Walt Frazier's line. Some people know about the Jordan brand without knowing he played ball.
:comeon: You're on some Stretch Armstrong shyt with this line.

:snoop: The question is more popular in THEIR PRIMES not who was more popular in 1986.Jordans prime = A worldwide global icon who had people in foreign countries up at 4am watching his games,Mikes last game in a bulls uniform was the highest rated nba game EVER.He was on tv pushin chevy, gatorade, coke, mcdonalds, nike and ball park franks. He was in commercials wit bugs bunny on superbowl sunday in his prime

My fukkin grandmama knew who MJ was :camby: foh tyson groupies

Edit : and in 86 Jordan was more popular than tyson too.Dropped an nba record 63 on the celtics, won a slam dunk contest, rookie of the year, college player of the year,Won a ncaa title, gold medal at the 84 olympics, and was being hyped as the 2nd coming of one of the nba's most popular players ever Dr J
Umm yeah, I'm well aware of Jordan's accolades (and no he did not win the slam dunk in 86, that was Spud), and this meant nothing to the majority of the world outside the US in 1986. Jordan wasn't even more popular than Magic then. Stop lying to us and yourself, and stick to the MJ/Kobe battles

I don't have to read articles to know Tyson was one of the most famous people on the planet.

Where you grow up?

Utterly redicilous.
So Tyson wins the HW title in 1986 and is not as big as a second year NBA player....runs through the division flawlessly for 3-4 years, and is not more popular than a Jordan that hadn't been to a championship yet? You nikkas have GOT to stop this fanboy stuff and just TRY to be rational. :damn:
:skip: Mike tyson won the heavyweight title november 22,1986.Jordan already had set an nba record on the boston celtics, won rookie of the year (and was the most exciting talked about player in the nba),a gold medal,a national player of the year and multiple college player of the year awards and a national championship before tyson became champ theres no way an up and coming boxer was more popular. But go head with your revisionist history
