I knew the world was cooked when fukking streamers became celebrities.
This was the first thing that turned me into an old man yelling at clouds, I absolutely love video games, was shocked at people watching other people play for hours
You can't blame kids for thatYeah it's concerning when you hear the next batch young kids growing up and all of them want to just be a streamer. No other aspirations or hobbies. No social skills at all. They just want to sit in the house and watch streamers then try to stream their own channel 24/7.
We have a society where these jobs ain't paying shyt, and that's if you're employed. This is no different than young hood kids wanting to be rappers or ball players because that's the shiniest example of success they see in a life that looks hopeless. The only difference is now the rest of America feels the same way
This is also the reason gambling has been on the rise. People are feeling like there's nothing solid or reliable to latch onto to build a future so why not take a chance on a lick or a lottery?

I didn't say anything is ok. Aspiring to be a famous streamer is not a smart decision for huge swaths of society to make, but that's the type of shyt that happens when a societies' elites fails it's people

I'm not a fan of any of these people but I find the whole parasocial aspect of streaming fascinating so I've been following it loosely since around 2020. Obviously streamers pre-date 2020 but the current iteration of streamers and their cult-like fan bases started as a direct result of covid and people not being able to leave the house.

Eh, I gotta disagree.
Watching someone play a game is the best way to gauge your own interest in it. I'm not saying watch a 48 hour marathon or anything, but an hour or so of watching someone play is worth 10 random reviews.
Having said that, streamers haven't really heavily gamed for a while now. A few do but the biggest ones rarely do and focus more on "in real life" streams and connecting to their audience on a personal level. Which again, feeds into the whole parasocial aspect of the culture.
