Kinda on the fence about this, more so on the not paying them side

Majority of athletics not generating profit for the school so u gonna pay some and not the other student athletes

And the ones that are making money for the school are almost guaranteed to be getting compensated with a nice financial aid package, overage checks, best facilities to eat, bowl game gift packages etc so its not like they living destitute out here

Also are u gonna pay the bench warmers the same as the stars...
Too many variables

Title 9

You ain't ready for those lawsuits
If your sport making money for the school and is a farm system you get paid. if your sport isn't making money and it isn't a farm system those full scholarships are compensation enough.

But I get what you're saying. No, not ready for it.

Title 9 is a mixed bag. Sometimes men's sports will get chopping blocked to field teams of women who don't have close to number of participants.

The sports industry in America is slavery by another name, exploiting the physical prowess of black men for the purpose of entertaining white people. They'll never pay these college athletes, because it would send money to the black community. Biggie said it best: either you're slingnin crack rock or you got a wicked jump shot.

No I don't think they should be paid, but they should have ownership of whatever they can create with that status.

Reasons being:

1) the arguement of how much each sport or player should be paid... whether ur pie if u play or not. And if the pay is enough.
2) maybe you should be paid if you aren't on a full ride. But a full ride is enough imo. Leaving a top college with no debt real debt and degree.
3) most athletes in some sports are treated like kings... I have a few buddies who went to the NFL, and they all were giving a lot of stuff already for free. Free housing, free meals, free books, all they really paid for was for fun.

I think they should let the athletes be able to make money off their likeness/endorsements, stop bytching about those petty ass gifts and whatnot; set up a trust for draftees and graduates...but not necessarily a game by game check.

Of course them boys should be paid. It's just another thing that rich white folk want to keep controlling.

let the individuals good enough to catch pro attention go
let students have student athletics
quit using it as a bridge to the pros

They should be paid.
Most of the athletes are getting free tuition + room and board + books, and special academic services, so the pay shouldn't be astronomical, but they should probably be making above minimum wage.

Allow them to cash out their scholarship. If people are saying that the scholarship has a dollar amount value, then the players should be able to cash out the scholarship. But they are not going to do that because if everybody is getting paid, the players are not really going to play hard because there would be no urgency to change their financial situations.

Another they can do is just allow boosters or alumni give the players money. It doesn't have to be equal because nothing about capitalism is about equity.

In a capital society there's an open market for everything. If it was an open market on college sports how much would these guys get paid? Considering they are making millions the next year so really their fair value is very high.

I think colleges and universities have firstly made rules where student athletes are making them money for pennies on the dollar. Included amateur ineligibility rules when whether or not someone is proffesional shouldnt matter as long as they are in the same age bracket. Side note: what do they do for tennis and swimming? Considering tennis players and swimmers can go pro early? If they decide to go to college are they not allowed to Compete there?

Second aside. University Is overpriced. Four years of education shouldn't be worth years of paying back student loans. So in summary they are minting money off of students of all walks of life and setting up rules so there's no other alternative. In an open market they would be forced to make greater concessions

I thought they were already compensated. Don't athletes already go to school for basically free?
