Seriously WTF? He has never let defense get in the way of his offense. He has always just gambled for steals. There are a few players who regularly owned him so he made it personal to try to guard them (Wade, Stephen Jackson, TMac, Baron Davis, etc) but for the most part, he would take a quick gamble for a steal and then let his man penetrate because he knew he had Shaq clogging the middle.
