Internet Forums are the only place where I see Swizz Beatz being classified as a mediocre producer

Yes, they were more impactful. That's almost undeniable. "Superthug" pretty much made N.O.R.E.'s solo career. "nikka What nikka Who" had people clamoring for their producers to make beats like that. The Neptunes and Timbaland aren't some run of the mill Hip Hop producers.

"Love is Blind" as a beat is soft. You don't have to dig deep for "Gotta Man" or "Girl's Best Friend". Both came out during Swizz's prime. They are well known.

In regard to Jay, you could say he went to Swizz for the same thing. I mean, there's the Swizzy produced track on Vol. 3 that features Mariah Carey.

The Lox don't get clowned for the remix, they get clowned for the original. The Neptunes remix of that song is far harder than the version that most people know and loathe. "Got Your Money" isn't the only ODB song produced by The Neptunes. They had other songs on that album.

LOL at Jay Z only going to The Neptunes for radio songs. Aside from "Big Pimpin", the rest of the Timbo productions on Vol. 3 are street records.

"super thug" was noreaga's big COMMERCIAL record that fueled his sales. yes but "banned from tv" was the cut that the streets was rockin to the most. EVERYBODY was rapping over that beat for a good 2 years. neptunes had their moment a few years later with grindin - which was basically to my 12th grade year, what "banned from tv" was in my 9th grade year.

come on man. stop playing dumb. "love is blind", gotta man & girls best friend are all female records, with "love is blind" being a serious one. stop acting like they account for the majority of prime swizz' catalog. meanwhile, that chit is indeed the majority for timbaland and the neptunes. and the way that youre trying to argue that chit in on the slick, lets me know that you know better and youre just trying to save face at this point.

jay was jockin the entire ruff ryder sound breh.

well what non-radio songs did the neptunes produce for jay?

and yea, theres a reason why jay didn't go back to timbaland for album cuts like that, and why he kept backing out of a timbaland-produced album for years, until hip-hop was over with. those beats were light. meanwhile, swizz was doing most of the LOX beats, which blew jay's volume 3 album out the water.

All of the records mentioned in this thread including Swizz's are COMMERCIAL records. You can act like "Superthug" wasn't heavy in the streets all you want. That beat went. "Grindin'" was bigger than both.

It doesn't matter whether they are female records or not. They are still soft beats and there's tons of Missy joints (that are rap records) that went harder than those production wise. That's not the majority of what Timbaland and The Neptunes made. Most of Timbaland's appeal came from him making hard beats suitable for rappers to spit over. That's why him doing "nikka What, nikka Who" wasn't outside of his wheel house.

"Love Is Blind" is serious because of the subject matter, not because of the production.

How was Jay jockin' the entire Ruff Ryder sound outside of Swizz Beatz contributing a handful of beats to Jay's whole career?

There's a lot of non-radio songs that The Neptunes produced for Jay Z. Every Jay Z album from Blueprint 2 forward has at least one Neptunes joint on it that wasn't for the radio.

Timbaland has been a part of every Jay Z album since Vol. 2 except Kingdom Come, American Gangster, and The Dynasty. Most of those songs were album cuts. He never backed out of doing a Timbaland-produced album. Jay Z has never had one producer produce an entire album for him. The closest he's had to a one producer album is American Gangster (Diddy& the Hitmen) and Magna Carta (Timbaland). And what's with this "until Hip Hop was over with" talk? If it's over with, what are we discussing.

Swizz produced one LOX album and Vol. 3 production wise easily blows that album out of the water. We Are The Streets is a good album "Recognize" was the standout and it's probably more noted for "Ryde or Die Chick" than "Wild Out".

yes. superthug was heavy in the streets, AS A SINGLE.

please post these hard ass missy beats. just because theyre bass-heavy, it doesn't mean those goofy ass beats were hard.

is the bolded a serious question?

yea, neptunes & timbaland produced non-singles for jay, but how many of them made a dent? why did jay avoid doing a timbaland-produced album for years? why did he wait until hip-hop died and the coast was clear?

the LOX album is only for noted for "recognize" on the internet. and LMAO @ "ryde or die chick". LMAO. it sounds like youre out of your jurisdiction on this one, buddy.

Swizz, Neptunes and Timbaland are 3 sides of the same coin to me. :yeshrug:
Hip hop was perfected under Havoc, RZA, Premier, Tip, Dre (Daz :lolbron:) etc.
Then the three above entered the game and watered the sound down. Everything got different, but ultimately softer.

They made some crazy beats for sure.
They never helmed a classic album. Definitely never helmed a GOAT contender.

Overwhelming majority who lived through (cognizant) the 90s (the whole 90s) and was young enough to still be a teenager when the three emerged is gonna put rank the 90s higher.
Hip hop started going off the cliff in 96/97. Swizz, Neptunes and Timbo were right there to push it off :lolbron:

You're admitting that it was heavy in the streets, so it being a single is irrelevant. "Banned From T.V." was also a single.

They weren't hard because they were bass heavy:

Several non-singles that Timbaland produced for Jay made a dent. For starters, "Is That Your Chick" was a leaked record before it became a Memphis Bleek single. Due to the response, it became a Memphis Bleek single. They just cut Twista from the song. There's also "Come And Get Me" and "It's Hot".

Again, Jay Z never avoided doing an album with Timbaland. You do know that Timbaland had more songs on Vol. 3 than any other producer and this was in 1999. Jay Z has NEVER had an album where one producer produced the entire album.

If anyone is out of their "jurisdiction" (which seems to be your go to when you don't have an argument), it's you.

I can't agree with this. For starters, it was The Hitmen and The Trackmasters who "watered the sound down". They came in with sample based production, but it was looped. They had some crazy beats that were more interpolations than samples and were capable of making street records. For the most part though, they were notorious for looping samples of big Pop and R&B records from the 80's and making hits out of them. That's when East Coast artists gravitated more towards The Hitmen and The Trackmasters than Havoc, RZA, Premier, and Tip. Once Biggie's "Juicy" took off, it was a wrap. Nas and LL Cool J both got albums helmed by The Trackmasters. Jay Z had Diddy & The Hitmen lace Vol. 1.

Havoc, RZA, Tip, nor Dre perfected Hip Hop. Hip Hop is too diverse of a genre for one or a handful of producers to perfect. Those guys are greats, but they didn't perfect it. It's also ignoring contributions from greats from previous eras. Now Dre is arguable because he's had influence on nearly every generation of Hip Hop.

Ya'll should be thanking Swizz, Timbaland, and The Neptunes because they pretty much took made The Hitmen and The Trackmasters obsolete. Once they came in and impacted the game, simply looping a sample, the way The Hitmen and Trackmasters were doing it, no longer worked.

Personally I rank Timbaland and The Neptunes among the greats because they changed Hip Hop production.

Why would someone who made mediocre to trash half the time not be seen as mediocre?

No wonder half this thread is people calling random songs they like "classics" but then claim forums are the weird ones as if a plethora minds should be agreeing with what's in your head

Who the hell besides an internet forum would even discuss Swizz beats in 2016?

So now Ruff Ryders Anthem , Jigga My nikka etc are random songs :mjlol: some of ya niccas don't even make ya bias subtle , no one on here is calling Swizz an elite producer we're just saying the hate internet niccas give him is excessive and irrational like your post for example :pachaha:

Pick out select songs to make a point brehs...
Did I or did I not say half? A few classic songs are in here and a bunch are random songs off of albums nikkas like. I know the internet is obsessed with calling anything classic though. Don't prove my point for me.

You said he should be well revered. Do you know what that word means? Nothing I said was irrational or hateful, I said what most people in here said and that is that he has some OK and great beats but alot of his work is shyt and mediocre.

Half of an album being good and the rest being shyt does not make the album great or worthy of saying it should be a highly praised album. The same applies to Swizz as an overall producer.

And again I don't know anyone besides forums who talk about Swizz beats in 2016 so this is purely an internet nikka discussion in of itself. And even then I hardly see anyone make a post or thread about Swizz beats.

Some of you dudes have this weird habit of coming up with some off the wall argument in your head and then come on the coli to argue it against the internet as if the web is against you and you know the truth when in reality you saw like 2 people say something and then you project your anger on everyone else and make up things.

My problem with Neptunes/Swizz/Timbaland is that they ave everyone a variation of the same damn beat for 2-3 years. I would agree with @mobbinfms because that's where it became watered down. At least the Hitmen & Trackmasters had different beats. Hell, the Hitmen had Nash Mack, D Dot, Amen-Ra, Stebie J, Chucky Thompson, 6 July, Buckwild...they all had different sounds and styles.

Swizz gets the right amount of praise and criticism, now and then, for his Casio's

Most producers have a variation of the same beat and that has nothing to do with the watering down of the sound. The whole point about The Hitmen and The Trackmasters is that they looped samples vs. chopping them. On top of that, it was far more of Pop sound than anything else. It's what caught the most criticism and flack of mid-late 90's Hip Hop. It's why people initially criticized Nas for IWW. "Street Dreams" samples the Eurythmics and has a sing-songy hook that interpolates the sample. Same goes for a lot of the records that came from The Hitmen. I'm not saying that they didn't create classics, but they clearly took watered down what producers were doing with samples. The production was blatant jacks.

The Neptunes/Timbaland and even Swizz proved to be far more versatile. They had far more in their arsenal than The Trackmasters and The Hitmen. They could loop, chop, interpolate, create something from scratch all while giving you something left field. And as a nod to what Timbaland was doing in the 90's, Stevie J even credits Timbaland for inspiring him to create the beat for "Notorious Thugs", which is one of the best productions to come out of The Hitmen camp.

What you're saying here is true. However, just because it's true doesn't mean everybody was rockin'
to "Banned From TV" strictly because of the beat. The beat is a banger, but it ain't a better beat than
"Superthug".

Matter fact - it might not even be a top 5 beat on the album.

come on man. stop playing dumb.

Bruh - all Swizz' beats are as "commercial" as the dudes you trying to vilify.

jay was jockin the entire ruff ryder sound breh.

Jay jocks everybody's sound when it's hot. That's what he do. That doesn't get you a prize.
Ask Rockwilder and Rick Rock. lol

well what non-radio songs did the neptunes produce for jay?

You can't be serious...there's like a bunch of these...

and yea, theres a reason why jay didn't go back to timbaland for album cuts like that, and why he kept backing out of a timbaland-produced album for years, until hip-hop was over with. those beats were light. meanwhile, swizz was doing most of the LOX beats, which blew jay's volume 3 album out the water.

You sayin' this like the LOX's beats was killin' it during this time. The best beat the LOX got during this era
was from Timbaland, so go back to the drawing board.

I'm on record as saying Volume 3 might be Jay's worst album...but don't forget Swizz dropped
that doo-doo chunk that was "Things That You Do" on there, also. Maaan, what a mess that was.

Swizz Beatz is the Sammy Sosa of production - he either hits a home run, or strikes out horribly...
and does the latter more than the former.

EDIT - ayo, we should go to The Tunnel forum and have a "make a Swizz Beat" thread,
and see what they come up with...

You're basically dissing yourself because you asked me to post them. In fact you said "please", so miss me with that. I'm quite sure you didn't even listen to them.

Timbaland and Jay were never in talks for years about doing an album together. It was suggested. It's no different from the Nas/Premo album that has been hinted at for years or any other rapper and producer combo that said they had an album in the works that didn't materialize.
