I don't hate Tupac. But I always thought that he totally fukced up.

These days he is considered Holy, but at the time he wasn't some diety. He was a decent rapper with an impressive catalog (kinda like Cool J where his massive hits covered up his misses).

It's out of line to celebrate the man's demise tho. Even if him and BIG are cautionary tales.

I live/lived in NYC during the 90s (ages 8 to 18)
& after 1994 I didn't care for east or west coast hip hop in general :manny:

I preferred raunchy shyt from ATL/M.I.A & N.O to keep it real during those era's.

Interesting to see that Nas 'It Was Written' thread... Just like I've said numerous times on here, IWW was NOT widely rejoiced about when it came out, from true Nas fans at the time. It was a let down and disappointment for the most part if you were still high off 'Illmatic'. Most considered the album to just be 'OK'. But let the revisionist tell it, IWW was an instant classic since day one.... and it's from revisionists who weren't old enough in 1996 to have even really peeped the album like that. I will admit, it disappointed me a bit in 1996 but over the years, it has grown on me and especially listening to it now, it is a fukking classic by all means compared to what hip hop became years later.

The 2Pac fakers are the worst though... some of y'all were 5 years old when Pac got killed, yet you front like you was aware of his impact and music in real time back then. So you were 2 years old reciting lyrics to 2Pacalypse Now album? 3 years old in your kiddie pool re-enacting the 'I Get Around' video? Nope. And we can see right through you. Stop it.
IWW my favorite Nas album but it definitely wasn’t considered a classic in the 90s. I was the only one I knew of that said it was better than Illmatic in the 90s. Everyone looked at me like :gucci: back then when I said that.

Pac was my GOAT when he was alive but in NY I was the only one in my circle that felt that way except my cousin who was actually in Above The Rim and smoked with him.

I wasn’t with the Biggie hate tho, he was my #2. Back then if u Loved one u most likely didn’t like the other.

Pac and Big were immortalized after they passed but it isn’t all revisionist history. They were the 2 biggest rappers in the game when they were alive during an era that a lot consider the best era.

true it is somewhat of a snap shot in time but it's also a very limited view of what it was like back then. in the mid-late 90s there weren't THAT many people who listened to Hip Hop compared to these days, let alone people who were Hip Hop heads AND had access to the internet AND knew about Hip Hop forums etc
:heh: This is wrong

I think this forum has been posted before. It dates all the way back to the 90s and you can see what people thought about historic events in real time. nikkas really hated 2pac, who woulda thought. Just look at this shyt, on the day he died! :picard:
I literally busted out laughing at this restaurant at that thread title :laff:

Pac as Killmonger in Black Panther :pachaha:

Breh would have killed it in the Tyrese role in 2 Fast 2 Furious :pachaha::pachaha:
This may be crazy, but an older, more experienced Pac would've made an amazing Killmonger if Black Panther came out in the 00s. The righteous anger, ambition and coolness already came natural to him.
